چکیده

Braneworld cosmology has several attractive and distinctive features. For instance the effective equation of state in braneworld models can be both quintessence-like (w0 ≥ −1) as well as phantomlike (w0 ≤ −1). Models with w0 ≥ −1 (w0 ≤ −1) are referred to as Brane 2 (Brane 1) and correspond to complementary embeddings of the brane in the bulk. (The equation of state in Brane 1 can successfully cross the ‘phantom divide’ at w = −1.) In this paper we compare the predictions of braneworld models to two recently released supernova data sets: the ‘Gold’ data (Riess et al., 2004) and the data from the Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS) (Astier et al., 2005). We also incorporate the recent discovery of the baryon acoustic peak in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (Eisenstein et al., 2005) into our analysis. Our main results are that braneworld models satisfy both sets of SNe data. Brane 1 (with w0 ≤ −1) shows very good agreement with data for values of the matter density bounded from below: Ω0m > ∼ 0.25 (Gold) and Ω0m > ∼ 0.2 (SNLS). On the other hand Brane 2 (with w0 ≥ −1) shows excellent agreement with data for values of the matter density which are bounded from above: Ω0m < ∼ 0.45 (Gold) and Ω0m < ∼ 0.35 (SNLS). The DGP model is excluded at 3σ by SNLS and at 1σ by the Gold dataset. Braneworld models with future ‘quiescent’ singularities (at which the Hubble parameter and the matter density remain finite but higher derivatives of the expansion factor diverge) are excluded by both datasets.

Confronting Dark Energy Models with Astrophysical Data

We discuss fits of cosmological dark energy models to the available data on high-redshift supernovae and baryon oscillations. We consider a conventional model with Cold Dark Matter and a cosmological constant (ΛCDM), a model invoking super-horizon perturbations (SHDM) and models based on Liouville strings in which dark energy is provided by a rolling dilaton field (Q-cosmology). The two main hi...

Braneworld Cosmology: Sneutrino Inflation and Leptogenesis

Modifications to the Friedmann equation in brane cosmology can have important implications for early universe phenomena such as inflation and the generation of the baryon asymmetry. In the framework of braneworld cosmology, we discuss a mechanism for baryogenesis via leptogenesis in the supersymmetric context, where the sneutrino is responsible for both inflation and the generation of the baryo...

Gravitational baryogenesis in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld cosmology

The mechanism of gravitational baryogenesis, based on the CPT -violating gravitational interaction between the derivative of the Ricci scalar curvature and the baryon-number current, is investigated in the context of the Gauss-Bonnet braneworld cosmology. We study the constraints on the fundamental five-dimensional gravity scale, the effective scale of B-violation and the decoupling temperature...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Observational constraints on phantom-like braneworld cosmologies

We investigate a simple braneworld model in which the universe contains only cold dark matter and a cosmological constant, but the effective dark energy is phantom-like because of extra-dimensional gravity effects. Modified gravity screens the cosmological constant Λ, allowing for a larger Λ. In practice, observations do not favour any significant screening. We use supernova data, the cosmic mi...
