چکیده

Let F be a family of graphs and let d be large enough. For every d-regular graph G, we study the existence of a spanning F -free subgraph of G with large minimum degree. This problem is wellunderstood if F does not contain bipartite graphs. Here we provide asymptotically tight results for many families of bipartite graphs such as cycles or complete bipartite graphs. To prove these results, we study a locally injective analogue of the question.

Large Subgraphs without Short Cycles

We study two extremal problems about subgraphs excluding a family F of graphs. i) Among all graphs with m edges, what is the smallest size f(m,F) of a largest F–free subgraph? ii) Among all graphs with minimum degree δ and maximum degree ∆, what is the smallest minimum degree h(δ,∆,F) of a spanning F– free subgraph with largest minimum degree? These questions are easy to answer for families not...

Large planar subgraphs in dense graphs

We prove sufficient and essentially necessary conditions in terms of the minimum degree for a graph to contain planar subgraphs with many edges. For example, for all positive γ every sufficiently large graph G with minimum degree at least (2/3 + γ)|G| contains a triangulation as a spanning subgraph, whereas this need not be the case when the minimum degree is less than 2|G|/3.

A characterization of P5-free graphs with a homeomorphically irreducible spanning tree

A spanning tree with no vertices of degree two is called a homeomorphically irreducible spanning tree (or a HIST ) of a graph. In [7], sets of forbidden subgraphs that imply the existence of a HIST in a connected graph of sufficiently large order were characterized. In this paper, we focus on characterizing connected P5-free graphs which have a HIST. As applications of our main result, we also ...

Light subgraphs of order 4 in large maps of minimum degree 5 on compact 2-manifolds

A graph H is said to be light in a class G of graphs if at least one member of G contains a copy of H and there is an integer w(H,G) such that each member G of G with a subgraph isomorphic with H has also a copy H with degree sum ∑ x∈V (H) degG(x) ≤ w(H,G). In this paper we prove that all proper spanning subgraphs H of the complete graph K4 are light in the class G of large graphs of minimum de...

A Class of Orientation-Invariant Yao-type Subgraphs of a Unit Disk Graph

We introduce a generalization of the Yao graph where the cones used are adaptively centered on a set of nearest neighbors for each node, thus creating a directed or undirected spanning subgraph of a given unit disk graph (UDG). We also permit the apex of the cones to be positioned anywhere along the line segment between the node and its nearest neighbor, leading to a class of Yao-type subgraphs...
