The ISO Long-Wavelength Spectrometer

چکیده
The Long-Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) is one of two complementary spectrometers aboard the European Space Agency’s Infrared Space Observatory1 (ISO) (Kessler et al., 1996). It operates over the wavelength range 43 196:9 m at either medium (about 150 to 200) or high (6800 to 9700) spectral resolving power. This Letter describes the instrument and its modes of operation; a companion paper (Swinyard et al, 1996) describes its performance and calibration. Send offprint requests to: P.E. Clegg ([email protected]) ? ISO is an ESA project with instruments funded by ESA Member States (especially the PI countries: France Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) and with the participation of ISAS and NASA.

Observing with the ISO Short-Wavelength Spectrometer
The Short-Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) is one of the four instruments on-board ESA’s Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), launched on November 17, 1995. The spectrometer covers the wavelength range of 2.38 to 45.2 m with a spectral resolution ranging from 1000 to 2000. By inserting Fabry-Perot filters the resolution can be enhanced by a factor 20 for the wavelength range from 11.4 to 44.5 m. An o...
متن کاملThe ISO spectrum of the planetary nebula NGC 6302
The spectrum of the planetary nebula NGC 6302 is presented, as it was observed by the ISO short-wavelength spectrometer. The IUE spectrum observed at the same position with the same aperture is also presented.
متن کاملNew rest wavelength determinations for 7 mid - infrared fine structure lines by ISO - SWS
Observations of the planetary nebulae NGC 6302, NGC 6543 and NGC 7027 by the Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) on board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) have been used to determine rest wavelengths of spectral lines. We report on improved accuracies for wavelengths of 7 mid-infrared ionic fine structure lines.

Context. The Long Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) onboard the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) observed the four large main-belt asteroids (1) Ceres, (2) Pallas, (4) Vesta, and (10) Hygiea multiple times. The photometric and spectroscopic data cover the wavelength range between 43 and 197 μm, and are a unique dataset for future investigations and detailed characterisations of these bodies. Aims. ...
متن کاملISO observations of the classical nova V1974 Cygni
We present observations of the classical nova V1974 Cygni (Nova Cyg 1992) obtained with the ISO Short and Long Wavelength Spectrometers (SWS and LWS) and the spectrometer section of ISOPHOT. We identify [Ne iii] 15.5, [Nev] 14.3, 24.3, [Nevi] 7.6, [O iii] 51.8, [O iv] 25.9. There is evidence that the Ne and O emission arises in physically distinct regions of the ejecta. We determine the electro...
