Liposuction sepsis - be alert.

چکیده
Postoperative infection in liposuction patients may be exceedingly difficult to clinically appreciate because of the skin edema, colour changes and even blistering that can occur. The authors outline such a case with practical advice about establishing an accurate and precise diagnosis of an early septic process.

Comparison of methods of alert acknowledgement by critical care clinicians in the ICU setting
BACKGROUND Electronic Health Record (EHR)-based sepsis alert systems have failed to demonstrate improvements in clinically meaningful endpoints. However, the effect of implementation barriers on the success of new sepsis alert systems is rarely explored. OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis time to severe sepsis alert acknowledgement by critical care clinicians in the ICU setting would be reduced...

متن کاملThe Use of an Early Alert System to Improve Compliance with Sepsis Bundles and to Assess Impact on Mortality
Introduction. Diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines, organized as sepsis bundles, have been shown to improve mortality, but timely and consistent implementation of these can be challenging. Our study examined the use of a screening tool and an early alert system to improve bundle compliance and mortality. Methods. A screening tool was used to identify patients with severe sepsis or septic shock...
متن کاملA Computerized Alert Screening for Severe Sepsis in Emergency Department Patients Increases Lactate Testing but does not Improve Inpatient Mortality.
OBJECTIVE This study tested the hypothesis that lactate testing in ED sepsis patients could be increased using a computer alert that automatically recognizes systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria and recommends lactate testing in cases of sepsis defined as ≥2 SIRS criteria plus physician suspicion of infection. Secondary outcomes included the effect of the alert on lactate tes...
متن کاملAutomated electronic medical record sepsis detection in the emergency department
Background. While often first treated in the emergency department (ED), identification of sepsis is difficult. Electronic medical record (EMR) clinical decision tools offer a novel strategy for identifying patients with sepsis. The objective of this study was to test the accuracy of an EMR-based, automated sepsis identification system. Methods. We tested an EMR-based sepsis identification tool ...
