چکیده

A R D I O E M B O L I C S T R O K E S A R E R E S P O N S I B L E for more than 20% of all ischemic trokes. The examination of atrial sources of cardioembolic strokes has focused almost exclusively on he left atrial appendage (LAA) and the pathophysiology of thrombus formation at this site is well nderstood. However, especially in rheumatic heart disease, thrombi can occur in the left atrium (LA) utside the appendage a significant proportion of the time with poor understanding of the underlying echanism. We present 3 patients in whom a thrombus was seen adherent to the septal LA. The robable underlying pathophysiology and the relationship to a recently described novel atrial structure, he left atrial septal pouch (LASP) (Fig. 1) that has the potential to be a site of stasis with hromboembolic complications, is discussed (1).

Holt-Oram Syndrome: A Rare Variant

Holt-Oram syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterised by skeletal abnormalities of the upper limb associated with congenital heart defect, mainly atrial and ventricular septal defects. Skeletal defects exclusively affect the upper limbs in the preaxial radial ray distribution and are bilateral and asymmetrical. They range from clinodactyly, absent or digitalised thumb, hypoplastic...

Acute Left Atrial Thrombus Formation on Resected Residual Cribriform Septum after Atrial Septal Defect Surgery

Acute left atrial thrombosis at the site of the resection of the primary cribriform septum is an exceedingly rare and important complication after atrial septal defect (ASD) closure with a pericardial or synthetic patch. This case report presents a mobile thrombus noted on the left atrium at the raw surface site of a resected cribriform primary septum that was not caught in the suture line with...

Intracardiac echocardiography-facilitated ablation of a left-lateral bypass tract in a patient with atrial septal aneurysm.

Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) has been used as an adjunctive tool during electrophysiological procedures, mainly to increase the safety of transseptal puncture. We present the case of a young patient with a left-lateral bypass tract and atrial septal aneurysm, in whom ICE delineated the underlying anatomy, excluded the presence of thrombus and facilitated access to the left atrium through...

Successful treatment of left atrial disk thrombus on an Amplatzer atrial septal defect occluder with abciximab and heparin.

Acute device thrombosis is a rare but important complication after transcatheter atrial septal defect closure. In this case a mobile thrombus was noted on the left side of an Amplatzer atrial septal occluder after device release in a 12 year old boy with an uncomplicated atrial septal defect. The thrombus was successfully treated with an infusion of heparin and the glycoprotein IIa/IIIb recepto...
