چکیده

We studied two types of nanopillar spin-valves: one using an in-plane magnetized polarizer layer and one using a perpendicular polarizer. Both types of devices contain a magnetic vortex in the second magnetic layer. Under direct current (DC) bias, the devices with in-plane polarizer exhibit persistent microwave oscillations that are characterized by two oscillation peaks and long timescale, discrete, fluctuations that lead to linewidth broadening. Under certain bias conditions, the devices with a perpendicular polarizer show behavior that is consistent with the switching of the vortex core under the effect of spin-polarized current.

Micromagnetic simulations of current-induced magnetization switching in Co/Cu/Co nanopillars

We studied the current-induced magnetic switching in Co/Cu/Co nanopillars with an in-plane magnetization traversed by a perpendicular-to-plane spin-polarized current. The Landau-LifshitzGilbert equation incorporating the spin transfer torque STT effect was employed. Magnetization switching was found to take place when the current density exceeds a threshold. It is accompanied by drastic oscilla...

Precessional modes due to spin-transfer in spin-valve nanopillars

Current-driven magnetic switching and magnetic dynamics in spin-valve nanopillars are considered in the framework of the macrospin model. The corresponding spin transfer torque is calculated in terms of the macroscopic model based on spin diffusion equations. Critical currents for switching from parallel to antiparallel magnetic configurations and to precessional regime are derived. Frequencies...
