چکیده
The structure and morphological change of the excretory gland in the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus was studied and discussed on the structural principles of these pneumatic csvity found by Goto and his co-workers. 1. The excretory gland of the maxillary sinus is a tubulo-cellular gland consisted of the tubar and cavitary part, and the latter is further divided into the tubular and cellular parts. This structure is in accordance with the structural principles of the pneumatic cavities including the middle ear, pranasal sinus, and lung. 2. The developmental grade of the gland in the maxillary sinus corresponds to the grade of pneumatisation in the majority. 3. There exists a gross correlation between the pathological change of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus and the developmental grade of the gland. For instance, the fibrous type mucous membrane has many atrophic glands and the edematous or mild type mucous membrane contains many well-developed glands. 4. The excretory canal is dilated in the gland with atrophic cells and it is narrow in the gland with large cells. 5. The distal cells are atrophic in those cases in which the excretory canal shows cystic dilatation. In these cases blind closure of the glandular orfice was confirmed on the serial section specimens. This change is often found in the mucous membrane with fibrous type change. 6. Activity of the gland measured by its dye sensitivity of the mucous membrane to muticarmine dye correlated to the size of the glandular canal. 7. Activity of the gland was lowered as the

Introduction Perforation of maxillary sinus mucous membrane is of the most prevalent complication during open sinus lift surgery. Moreover, such complication can usually be managed by an absorbable membrane. As far as absorbable membranes are concerned, decellularized maxillary sinus mucous membranes, which is an extracellular matrix, can be used as a biologic scaffold and insulating membrane ...
متن کاملUsing Absorbable Gelatin Sponge to Facilitate Sinus Membrane Elevation during Open Sinus Lift: Technical Notes and Case Series
Ridge atrophy accompanied by the pneumatization of maxillary sinus in the maxillary posterior region may lead to inadequate bone height, thereby precluding implant placement. Therefore, it may be mandatory to perform a sinus membrane elevation procedure and augmentation in the bone. The present study aimed to introduce a novel modification method for sinus floor elevation using a gelatin sponge...
متن کاملFatty tissue within the maxillary sinus: a rare finding.
BACKGROUND We report a rare case of fatty tissue within the maxillary sinus in a 21-year-old woman, with a history of several previous punctures of the maxillary sinus. CASE PRESENTATION Clinical data of the patient was analysed retrospectively. The patient presented with symptoms of left-sided chronic maxillary sinusitis and had undergone several punctures of the left maxillary sinus 18 mont...
متن کاملEvaluation of prevalence and pattern of maxillary sinus mucosal thickening in cone beam computed tomography of dental implant candidates in Shiraz, Iran
BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study aimed to assess maxillary sinus floor membrane thickness and ostium patency (OP) in patients undergoing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluation for implant placement in the posterior maxilla. Mucosal thickening (MT) could be cause of post-operative complications in implant procedures; awareness of this incidence could help proper detection and further succ...
متن کاملMyxoid Type of Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Maxillary Sinus: A Case Report
Introduction: Myxofibrosarcoma was originally described as the myxoid variant of Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (MFH), a high-grade and aggressive sarcoma, which is very uncommon in the head and neck region, with about 100 cases reported up to now. MFH occurring in the maxillary sinus is so rare that only 23 cases have been reported. We hereby report a case of myxofibrosarcoma in the maxillar...
