Universal type approvals for Ka-band ground equipment
نویسنده
چکیده
Ka-band offers the promise of very low-cost broadband terminals deployed in quantities an order of magnitude greater than the total number of all the two-way Cand Ku-band terminals installed since the birth of satellite communications. For small terminals, installation and commissioning costs can easily overwhelm equipment cost unless the terminal is pre-qualified for interference-limiting performance without on-site testing. The satellite industry has addressed this issue for Cand Ku-band with mutually-recognized type approval procedures, but operation at 20 and 30 GHz gives rise to special considerations in equipment design, qualification, and testing. Work is beginning to adapt existing type approval procedures for Ka-band and to review performance standards for discrepancies, with the ultimate goal of universal type approval procedures and standards recognized not only by satellite operators but also by government administrations.

Very Small Size ka Band 6 Bit DMTL Phase Shifter Based on Combination of Capacitor and Resonator Type Methods
Abstract- Design and simulation of a very small size 6-bit DMTL phase shifter is presented. The idea is based on using both capacitor and resonator type methods simultaneously in a phase shifter. The capacitor section creates less significant bits. The bits in this section start from the least significant bit, with 5.625-degree steps. The resonator section creates the bits with 90-degree steps....

In the last decade, the demand for reliable data, voice, and video satellite communication links between aircraft and ground to improve air traffic control, airline management, and to meet the growing demand for passenger communications has increased significantly. It is expected that in the near future, the spectrum required for aeronautical communication services will grow significantly beyon...
متن کاملReducing Antenna Mechanical Noise in Precision Doppler Tracking
Precision Doppler tracking of deep-space probes is central to spacecraft navigation and many radio science investigations. The most sensitive Doppler observations to date have been taken using the NASA/JPL Deep Space Network (DSN) antenna DSS 25—a 34-m-diameter beam-waveguide station especially instrumented with simultaneous X-band (≈8.4-GHz) and Ka-band (≈32-GHz) links and tropospheric scintil...
متن کاملSatellite Broadband Revolution: How Latest Ka-Band Systems Will Change the Rules of the Industry. An Interpretation of the Technological Trajectory
The paper analyzes the satellite broadband systems for consumer from the perspective of technological innovation. The suggested interpretation relies upon such concepts as technological paradigm, technological trajectory and salient points. Satellite technology for broadband is a complex system on which each component (i.e. the satellite, the end-user equipment, the on-ground systems and relate...
