Computerized Adaptive Testing With Item Cloning
نویسنده
چکیده
To increase the number of items available for adaptive testing and reduce the cost of item writing, the use of techniques of item cloning has been proposed. An important consequence of item cloning is possible variability between the item parameters. To deal with this variability, a multilevel item response (IRT) model is presented which allows for differences between the distributions of item parameters of families of item clones. A marginal maximum likelihood and a Bayesian procedure for estimating the hyperparameters are presented. In addition, an item-selection procedure for computerized adaptive testing with item cloning is presented which has the following two stages: First, a family of item clones is selected to be optimal at the estimate of the person parameter. Second, an item is randomly selected from the family for administration. Results from simulation studies based on an item pool from the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) illustrate the accuracy of these item pool calibration and adaptive testing procedures.

متن کاملComputerized Adaptive Testing for Cognitive Diagnosis
Computerized adaptive testing (CAT) has become a popular testing mode in recent decades, because it improves testing efficiency over paper-and-pencil testing while maintaining accuracy. Usually CAT programs are built upon latent trait item response theory models. Cognitive diagnostic models, on the other hand, are constrained latent class models. It is of interest to both researchers and practi...

متن کاملAn evaluation of computerized adaptive testing for general psychological distress: combining GHQ-12 and Affectometer-2 in an item bank for public mental health research
BACKGROUND Recent developments in psychometric modeling and technology allow pooling well-validated items from existing instruments into larger item banks and their deployment through methods of computerized adaptive testing (CAT). Use of item response theory-based bifactor methods and integrative data analysis overcomes barriers in cross-instrument comparison. This paper presents the joint cal...

Learning and instruction can be enhanced with the information provided from assessment. Computerized adaptive testing is an effective mode of e-testing as it can be operated in a continual and dynamic mode. It can also cater for individual needs by providing tailor-made tests. In this paper, we will examine a new item selection approach which would allow more flexibility in balancing the two co...
