چکیده
Anisotropy of the permeability tensor in statistically uniform porous media of sizes used in typical computer simulations is studied. Although such systems are assumed to be isotropic by default, we show that de facto their anisotropic permeability can give rise to significant changes of transport parameters such as permeability and tortuosity. The main parameter controlling the anisotropy is a/L, being the ratio of the obstacle to system size. Distribution of the angle α between the external force and the volumetric fluid stream is found to be approximately normal, and the standard deviation of α is found to decay with the system size as (a/L), where d is the space dimensionality. These properties can be used to estimate both anisotropy-related statistical errors in large-scale simulations and the size of the representative elementary volume.

متن کاملTransport Property Estimation of Non-Uniform Porous Media
In this work a glass micromodel which its grains and pores are non-uniform in size, shape and distribution is considered as porous medium. A two-dimensional random network model of micromodel with non-uniform pores has been constructed. The non-uniformity of porous model is achieved by assigning parametric distribution functions to pores throat and pores length, which was measured using ima...
متن کاملJa n 20 08 Tortuosity – porosity relation in the porous media flow
We study numerically the tortuosity–porosity relation in a microscopic model of a porous medium arranged as a collectin of freely overlapping squares. It is demonstrated that the finite-size effects and the discretization errors, which were ignored in previous studies, may cause significant underestimation of tortuosity. The simple tortuosity calculation method proposed here eliminates the need...
متن کاملJa n 20 09 Bounds for the return probability of the delayed random walk on finite percolation clusters in the critical case
By an eigenvalue comparison-technique[20], the expected return probability of the delayed random walk on critical Bernoulli bond percolation clusters on the twodimensional Euclidean lattice is estimated. The results are generalised to invariant percolations on unimodular graphs with almost surely finite clusters. The approach involves using the special property of cartesian products of finite g...
متن کاملA Numerical Modeling for Natural Convection Heat Transfer in Porous Media With Generated Internal Heat Sources
In this paper a numerical method is used to study the unsteady state natural convection heat transfer within a confined porous media with uniform internal heat generation. The governing equations based on the Darcy model and Bossiness approximations are solved, using the finite difference Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The developed program was used to simulate natural convection ...
