چکیده

We report on an angle-resolved resonant photoemission study of Co and Fe metal at the M III absorption threshold. The intensity of the various spectral components was measured as a function of the electron emission angle relative to the E vector of the incident light. On M III resonance, the main valence-band photoemission ~PE! intensity of Co and Fe metal, located between EF and 3 eV, follows a cos u behavior, as is expected for a photoemission process. However, the intensity of the enhanced feature located at '5 eV is found to be almost independent of the emission angle, as expected for an incoherent Auger process. This clearly shows that the enhancement of the 5 eV PE signal is mainly caused by an incoherent Auger decay and not by a resonant PE process. @S0163-1829~97!03128-7#

RESONANT 3p AND 3s CORE-LEVEL PHOTOEMISSION AT THE 2p THRESHOLDS OF Ni AND Co METAL

We report on a resonant photoemission study of Ni and Co metal at the LIn soft-X-ray absorption threshold. The valence-band spectra as well as the 3p and 3s emission exhibit an enhancement at resonance. For Ni metal, a quantitative analysis shows that the increase of the 3p and 3s emission signal is mainly due to an incoherent superposition of the photoemission and the Auger channels. In case o...

Spin-dependent hybridization and magnetic order of Ce/Fe(110) studied by spin-resolved resonant photoemission

Electronic and magnetic structures of the Ce/Fe(110) system were studied by means of spinand angle-resolved resonant photoemission. Antiferromagnetic coupling of Fe 3d and Ce 4f spin magnetic moments was concluded from spin-resolved photoemission measurements supported by the electronic structure calculations. The relative intensity of the minority-spin component of hybridization feature at the...

Coupling a Sophisticated Growth System with Synchrotron-Based Spectroscopy of Magnetic Nanostructures

Epitaxial magnetic multilayers are grown in a new deposition system that can be coupled to a variety of synchrotron-based spectroscopic tools at the SRC, such as angle-resolved photoemission with a Scienta analyzer, spin-polarized photoemission, and resonant magnetic x-ray scattering. It is possible to deposit materials by sputter-deposition and by evaporation in the same system, thereby allowi...

Temperature Dependent 5f-states in URu2Si2

A dramatic temperature dependent enhancement of U 5f spectral weight at EF is observed in angle-resolved photoemission measurements of URu2Si2 at the center of an X-point hole-pocket. Comparison of this temperature dependent behavior for excitation both at and below the U 5d→5f resonant threshold is presented.

Spin-polarized electron tunneling in bcc FeCo/MgO/FeCo(001) magnetic tunnel junctions.

In combining spin- and symmetry-resolved photoemission, magnetotransport measurements and ab initio calculations we detangled the electronic states involved in the electronic transport in Fe(1-x)Co(x)(001)/MgO/Fe(1-x)Co(x)(001) magnetic tunnel junctions. Contrary to previous theoretical predictions, we observe a large reduction in TMR (from 530 to 200% at 20 K) for Co content above 25 atomic% a...
