چکیده

R2-type measures are commonly used tools for assessing the predictive power of linear regression models; for generalized linear models this measure is based on deviances. For small samples, it is necessary to adjust R2 for the number of covariates. This article shows that some of the adjustments that have been proposed for logistic, Poisson, gamma and inverse Gaussian models, can be expressed in a general form that covers all exponential dispersionmodels with power variance function (also called Tweedie models). The adjusted measure is asymptotically unbiased. Numerical results of a simulation study are presented to explore the estimator behavior under different sample sizes, different number of covariates and different population values of the adjusted deviance based measure. The performances of the adjusted measures are also investigated on a data set used by Box and Cox. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Estimating Total Claim Size in the Auto Insurance Industry: a Comparison between Tweedie and Zero-Adjusted Inverse Gaussian Distribution

The objective of this article is to estimate insurance claims from an auto dataset using the Tweedie and zero-adjusted inverse Gaussian (ZAIG) methods. We identify factors that influence claim size and probability, and compare the results of these methods which both forecast outcomes accurately. Vehicle characteristics like territory, age, origin and type distinctly influence claim size and pro...

Alpha/Beta Divergences and Tweedie Models

We describe the underlying probabilistic interpretation of alpha and beta divergences. We first show that beta divergences are inherently tied to Tweedie distributions, a particular type of exponential family, known as exponential dispersion models. Starting from the variance function of a Tweedie model, we outline how to get alpha and beta divergences as special cases of Csiszár’s f and Bregma...

Using Regression based Control Limits and Probability Mixture Models for Monitoring Customer Behavior

In order to achieve the maximum flexibility in adaptation to ever changing customer’s expectations in customer relationship management, appropriate measures of customer behavior should be continually monitored. To this end, control charts adjusted for buyer’s/visitor’s prior intention to repurchase or visit again are suitable means taking into account the heterogeneity across customers. In the ...

On Poisson–Tweedie mixtures

*Correspondence: [email protected] 1Department of Mathematics, Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA Full list of author information is available at the end of the article Abstract Poisson-Tweedie mixtures are the Poisson mixtures for which the mixing measure is generated by those members of the family of Tweedie distributions whose support is non-negative. This class of non-negative integer-valued ...

Tweedie distributions for fitting semicontinuous health care utilization cost data

BACKGROUND The statistical analysis of health care cost data is often problematic because these data are usually non-negative, right-skewed and have excess zeros for non-users. This prevents the use of linear models based on the Gaussian or Gamma distribution. A common way to counter this is the use of Two-part or Tobit models, which makes interpretation of the results more difficult. In this s...
