Vorlesungen iiber Zahlentheorie. By Edmund Landau. These three excellently printed and arranged volumes form an addition of the highest importance to the literature of the theory of numbers. With them, the reader familiar with the basic elements of the theory of functions of a real and complex variable, can follow many of the astonishing recent advances in this fascinating field. His interest is enlisted at once and sustained by the accuracy, skill, and enthusiasm with which Landau marshals the analytic facts and simplifies as far as possible the inevitable mass of details. Part I of Volume I gives a treatment of the elements of the theory of numbers up to the theory of quadratic residues and of the Pellian equation. This occupies a little over 50 pages. In Part II is first deduced the elementary inequality

Exact solutions of the 2D Ginzburg-Landau equation by the first integral method
The first integral method is an efficient method for obtaining exact solutions of some nonlinear partial differential equations. This method can be applied to non integrable equations as well as to integrable ones. In this paper, the first integral method is used to construct exact solutions of the 2D Ginzburg-Landau equation.

In this paper, formulation of Modified Ginsberg – Landau theory of second grade phase transitions has been expressed. Using this theory, termodynamic properties, such as heat capacity, energy, entropy and order parameters ofandnuclei has been investigated. In the heat capacity curve, calculated according to tempreture, a smooth peak is observed which is assumed to be a signature of transition f...
متن کاملStatistical Physics (PHY831): Part 4: Ginzburg-Landau theory, modeling of dynamics and scaling in complex systems
London theory was developed by Fritz London in 1935 to describe the Meissner effect. This theory leads to the introduction of the penetration depth to describe the extent of magnetic field penetration, λ into type I superconductors. The penetration depth is also important in type II superconductors and describes the extent of flux penetration near vortices as well as at surfaces. Prior to his s...
متن کاملGinzburg-Landau theory of the superheating field anisotropy of layered superconductors
We investigate the effects of material anisotropy on the superheating field of layered superconductors. We provide an intuitive argument both for the existence of a superheating field, and its dependence on anisotropy, for κ = λ/ξ (the ratio of magnetic to superconducting healing lengths) both large and small. On the one hand, the combination of our estimates with published results using a two-...
متن کاملHartree-Fock Theory of Skyrmions in Quantum Hall Ferromagnets
We report on a study of the charged-skyrmion or spin-texture excitations which occur in quantum Hall ferromagnets near odd Landau level filling factors. Particle-hole symmetry is used to relate the spin-quantum numbers of charged particle and hole excitations and neutral particle-hole pair excitations. Hartree-Fock theory is used to provide quantitative estimates of the energies of these excita...
