Quorum system and random based asynchronous rendezvous protocol for cognitive radio ad hoc networks

چکیده
This paper proposes a rendezvous protocol for cognitive radio ad hoc networks, RAC2E-gQS, which utilizes (1) the asynchronous and randomness properties of the RAC2E protocol, and (2) channel mapping protocol, based on a grid Quorum System (gQS), and taking into account channel heterogeneity and asymmetric channel views. We show that the combination of the RAC2E protocol with the grid-quorum based channel mapping can yield a powerful RAC2E-gQS rendezvous protocol for asynchronous operation in a distributed environment assuring a rapid rendezvous between the cognitive radio nodes having available both symmetric and asymmetric channel views. We also propose an enhancement of the protocol, which uses a torus QS for a slot allocation, dealing with the worst case scenario, a large number of channels with opposite ranking lists.

Quorum-Based Asynchronous Power-Saving Protocols for IEEE 802.11 Ad Hoc Networks
This paper investigates the power mode management problem for an IEEE 802.11-based mobile ad hoc network (MANET) that allows mobile hosts to tune to the power-saving (PS) mode. There are two major issues that need to be addressed in this problem: (a) wakeup prediction and (b) neighbor discovery. The former is to deliver buffered packets to a PS host at the right time when its radio is turned on...
متن کاملMedium Access Control in Cognitive Radio Networks
Cognitive radio (CR) is seen as one of the enabling technologies for realizing a new regulatory spectrum management paradigm, viz. opportunistic spectrum sharing (OSS). In the OSS paradigm, unlicensed users (a.k.a. secondary users) opportunistically operate in fallow licensed spectrum on a non-interference basis to licensed users (a.k.a. incumbent or primary users). Incumbent users have absolut...
متن کاملThe Life Cycle of the Rendezvous Problem of Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks: A Survey
In cognitive radio or dynamic spectrum access networks, a rendezvous represents meeting two or more users on a common channel, and negotiating to establish data communication. The rendezvous problem is one of the most challenging tasks in cognitive radio ad hoc networks. Generally, this problem is simplified by using two well-known mechanisms: the first uses a predefined common control channel,...
متن کاملA quorum-based multi-channel MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks
Rendezvous and Multi-channel Hidden Terminal problems are the two well-known challenges in developing a multi-channel MAC protocol. In literature, the Control Period Based (CPB) approach is proposed to cope with the rendezvous problem. Each channel is partitioned into several beacon intervals and each of which consists of ATIM window and data window. All hosts are asked to stay in every ATIM wi...
متن کاملCH-CSMA-CA: a MAC protocol for asynchronous channel hopping rendezvous in 802.11 DCF-based cognitive radio networks
Blind rendezvous paradigm recently expedites the approach to the control channel establishment problem in cognitive radio networks. As a result, many novel asynchronous channel hopping (CH) rendezvous schemes are proposed for realizing blind rendezvous in these years. However, how to integrate these asynchronous CH rendezvous schemes with CSMA/CA MAC has not been researched so far. In this pape...
