چکیده

OLAP applications make use of fast indexes and materialization of data. Most research treats just one topic. Either the materialized values or the design of index structures are considered. This paper examines a possible combination of both techniques. The R -tree is taken as an example of a multi-dimensional index structure. Aggregated data is stored in the inner nodes of the index structure in addition to the references to the successor-nodes. We describe how this mechanism works in detail and present results of performance evaluation.

Interactive ROLAP on Large Datasets: A Case Study with UB-Trees

Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) requires query response times within the range of a few seconds in order to allow for interactive drilling, slicing, or dicing through an OLAP cube. While small OLAP applications use multidimensional database systems, large OLAP applications like the SAP BW rely on relational (ROLAP) databases for efficient data storage and retrieval. ROLAP databases use spec...

Improving Query Performance on OLAP-Data Using Enhanced Multidimensional Indices

Multidimensional indices are efficient to improve the query performance on OLAP data. As one multidimensional index structure, R*-tree is popular and successful, which is a member of the famous R-tree family. We enhance the R*-tree to improve the performance of range queries on OLAP data. First, the following observations are presented. (1) The clustering pattern of the tuples (of the OLAP data...

Efficient evaluation of partially-dimensional range queries in large OLAP datasets

In light of the increasing requirement for processing multidimensional queries on OLAP (relational) data, the database community has focused on the queries (especially range queries) on the large OLAP datasets from the view of multidimensional data. It is well-known that multidimensional indices are helpful to improve the performance of such queries. However, we found that much information irre...

ارائه روشی پویا جهت پاسخ به پرس‌وجوهای پیوسته تجمّعی اقتضایی

Data Streams are infinite, fast, time-stamp data elements which are received explosively. Generally, these elements need to be processed in an online, real-time way. So, algorithms to process data streams and answer queries on these streams are mostly one-pass. The execution of such algorithms has some challenges such as memory limitation, scheduling, and accuracy of answers. They will be more ...

Efficient Updates for OLAP Range Queries on Flash Memory

This paper explores efficient ways to use flash memory to store OLAP data. The particular type of queries considered are range queries using the aggregate functions SUM, COUNT and AVG. The asymmetric cost of reads and writes for flash memory gives higher importance to how updates are handled in a flash memory environment. A popular data structure used for answering OLAP rangesum queries is the ...
