Performance Evaluation of QoS by Combining Medium Access Control and Slow Start in MANETS

چکیده
This paper evaluates the performance evaluation of interaction between Transport and the MAC layer protocols operating in a mobile adhoc network. In Adhoc networks, certain QoS parameters like error rate, delay and packet loss are increased and certain parameters like throughput and delivery ratio are decreased in Transport layer is due to MAC problems and disconnection is also possible due to mobility or power failure. So, combine the mechanisms of these two layers improve the QoS drastically. We examine the effects of two different MAC protocols— IEEE 802.11and IEEE802.11e with Slow start mechanism of TCP. Specifically, we access the impact of multiple wireless hops and node mobility on the throughput performance of TCP on each MAC protocol. Additionally the other Qos parameters of throughput, delay, Bandwidth delay product, delivery ratio and packet loss using slow start of TCP mechanism with two different MAC protocols is also investigated. Results show that in all instances, the QoS parameters 15-20% improvement in throughput, 40-45% improvement in bandwidth-delay product, 10-15% improvement in delivery ratio in IEEE 802.11e than IEEE802.11 and packet loss is reduced drastically to 40-50% in IEEE802.11e where only 3-5%delay is higher in IEEE802.11e than IEEE802.11.

Performance Evaluation of Unicast and Broadcast Mobile Ad hoc Network Routing Protocols
Efficient routing mechanism is a challenging issue for group oriented computing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). The ability of MANETs to support adequate Quality of Service (QoS) for group communication is limited by the ability of the underlying ad-hoc routing protocols to provide consistent behavior despite the dynamic properties of mobile computing devices. In MANET QoS requirements can ...
متن کاملIssues in the Usage of MANETs as Backup or Load-Balancing Transit Networks of the Internet
Internetworking the mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) with the Internet has been a hot issue for many years. However, most researches have been concentrated on the use of MANETs as the access networks for the Internet. This paper introduces another use of MANETs: backup or load-balancing transit networks for the Internet. Although the MANETs capacity is currently low compared with other backbone ...
متن کاملA Flexible Quality of Service Model for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
Quality of service (QoS) support in Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs) is a challenging task. Most of the proposals in the literature only address certain aspects of the QoS support, e.g., QoS routing, QoS medium access control (MAC) and resource reservation. However, none of them proposes a QoS model for MANETs. Meanwhile, two QoS models have been proposed for the Internet, viz., the Integrated S...
متن کاملA Survey of Qos Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is composed of mobile nodes without any infrastructure. MANET applications such as audio/video conferencing, webcasting requires very stringent and inflexible Quality of Service (QoS). The provision of QoS guarantees is much more challenging in MANETs than wired networks due to node mobility, limited power supply and a lack of centralized control. Many researches...
متن کاملThe Performance Comparison of BGP-GCR+ and AODV Routing Protocols in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
This paper presents the implementation and performance evaluation of our proposed BGP-GCR+ routing architecture via simulation in ns-2. BGP-GCR+ consists of three components: (1) a two-level hierarchical, non-overlapped, one-node fault-tolerant routing algorithm for large-scale mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), (2) an IPv6-based address stateless auto-configuration scheme, and (3) procedures at ...
