A Convergence Rate for Semi-discrete Splitting Approximations for Degenerate Parabolic Equations with Source Terms

چکیده
We study a semi-discrete splitting method for computing approximate viscosity solutions of the initial value problem for a class of nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with source terms. It is fairly standard to prove that the semi-discrete splitting approximations converge to the desired viscosity solution as the splitting step ∆t tends to zero. The purpose of this paper is, however, to consider the more difficult problem of providing a precise estimate of the convergence rate. Using viscosity solution techniques we establish the L∞ convergence rate O( √ ∆t) for the approximate solutions, and this estimate is robust with respect to the regularity of the solutions. We also provide an extension of this result to weakly coupled systems of equations, and in the case of more regular solutions we recover the “classical” rate O(∆t). Finally, we analyze in an example a fully discrete splitting method.

متن کاملUniform-in-time convergence of numerical methods for non-linear degenerate parabolic equations
Gradient schemes is a framework that enables the unified convergence analysis of many numerical methods for elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations: conforming and non-conforming Finite Element, Mixed Finite Element and Finite Volume methods. We show here that this framework can be applied to a family of degenerate non-linear parabolic equations (which contain in particular the Ri...
متن کاملA new positive definite semi-discrete mixed finite element solution for parabolic equations
In this paper, a positive definite semi-discrete mixed finite element method was presented for two-dimensional parabolic equations. In the new positive definite systems, the gradient equation and flux equations were separated from their scalar unknown equations. Also, the existence and uniqueness of the semi-discrete mixed finite element solutions were proven. Error estimates were also obtaine...
متن کاملA Modified Degenerate Kernel Method for the System of Fredholm Integral Equations of the Second Kind
In this paper, the system of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind is investigated by using a modified degenerate kernel method (MDKM). To construct a MDKM the source function is approximated by the same way of producing degenerate kernel. The interpolation is used to make the needed approximations. Lagrange polynomials are adopted for the interpolation. The equivalency of proposed m...

In this paper, to investigate the multi-dimensional Fredholm integral equations of the second kind a modified degenerate kernel method is used. To construct the mentioned modified, the source function is approximated by the same method which employed to obtain a degenerate approximation of the kernel. The Lagrange interpolation method is used to make the needed approximations. The error and ...
