چکیده

Suday, O cber 8, 2017 were performed under general anesthesia using a double-lumen endotracheal tube to ensure selective deflation of the ipsilateral lung, trocar insertion, and creation of an artificial apical pneumothorax. Then, a specifically designed thoracoscope was inserted, and the second, third, and/or fourth thoracic sympathetic ganglia were severed by means of electrocautery. To assess the improvements in quality of life over time, a questionnaire was submitted to a randomized group of 77 patients treated with this minimally invasive technique. The questionnaire included specific questions concerning several psychological and clinical features.

Primary success of bifurcated vein patch arteriovenous fistula and Brescia-Cimino methods.

INTRODUCTION For continuous hemodialysis, an appropriate vascular access, mostly through an arteriovenous fistula (AVF), is crucial. The Brescia-Cimino (BC) method is a common surgical method for AVF creation. However, this method is sometimes not possible, due to a small venous diameter or its wide distance from the artery. We evaluated the success rate of bifurcated vein patch (BVP) technique...

Vascular Access for Hemodialysis - How to Maintain in Clinical Practice

Chronic access to the circulation became a reality in 1960 when Scribner, Dillard, and Quinton introduced the Teflon-Silastic arteriovenous (AV) shunt. The Scribner shunt rarely could be used for more than 3 months because of: interference of the external appliance with normal activity, infection, thrombosis, and bleeding [3]. These disadvantages were overcome by introduction of the subcutaneou...

Does pre-operative duplex examination improve patency rates of Brescia-Cimino fistulas?

A well-functioning vascular access remains the lifeline for patients with end-stage renal failure, who are being treated by chronic haemodialysis. Since 1966, the radiocephalic arteriovenous (AV) fistula, initially described by Brescia and Cimino, has been employed as a vascular access in many dialysis patients [1]. The Brescia-Cimino AV fistula has a low rate of complications and a high patenc...

AV Fistulae and Catheters for Hemodialysis: How Much Should Nephrologists be Involved in Vascular Access for Hemodialysis

Native arteriovenous (AV) fistula which was introduced into clinical practice in 1966 by Brescia, Cimino, Appel and Hurowich [1] is still a vascular access of choice for chronic hemodialysis patients. The main advantages were longevity and fewer, especially infectious, complications. For the patients with exhausted vasculature, AV grafts made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), introdu...

[Vascular access for hemodialysis].

Reference is made to a personal series of vascular accesses for haemodialysis on 273 patients aged 6 months to 70 yr. During the course of 12 years, 533 operations were performed: 109 cannulations of the saphena, 152 by-pass, 251 arteriovenous fistulae (including 22 on patients under 10 yr of age), and 21 "difficult accesses". An assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of the techniques ...
