NONLINEAR OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF NOVEL NANOSTRUCTURED ION IMPLANTED AND LASER ABLATED SILICON USING FEMTOSECOND PULSE EXCITATION by Elaine N. Lalanne The study of the nonlinear optical properties of novel nanostructured ion implanted and laser ablation of Silicon is motivated by the need for materials that exhibit large values of the real part of the third order nonlinear susceptibility (x (3)Re). This property is essential for light controlled phase or refractive index modulation at low power, where the optical properties are used for optical switching devices. Previous nanosecond (ns) measurements indicated values of-2.8 x 10-5 esu (X = 532 nm) for x (3)Re • The characterization of nonlinear optical properties of the samples was studied by the Z-scan techniques using — 100 fs pulses. The Z-scan technique is a relatively simple and direct measurement of both the real and imaginary part of X (3), where the nonlinear refractive index (n2) is related to x(3)Re and the nonlinear absorption ((3) to x (3). . Femtosecond pulse excitation measurements were performed to study ultrafast dynamics by inducing nonlinear optical changes, such as photo-induced absorption and measuring the nonlinear response. For fast optical switching applications, a fast and relatively large electronic nonlinearity is required. Generation of High Order Harmonics from H2+ Molecule Ion by Using Homogenous and Inhomogeneous Laser Fields

We solved one dimensional Schrodinger equation in a H2+ molecular environment by using 3 femtosecond homogeneous and nonhomogeneous laser fields. In homogeneous case, we found out that larger inter nuclear distances result in earlier ionization and also more instability in the wave packet. We deducted that the more the instability is, the more modulated the power spectrum will be. So, by choosi...

The study of propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in the breast tissue

In this paper, the evaluation of time profile of a femtosecond pulse laser propagated through biological tissues is studied. The majority of the biological tissues with a high scattering anisotropy must be considered as turbid media, that their optical responses are complicated. To study the propagation of ultra-short pulse in turbid media, the diffuse equation is used. In this study, the analy...
