چکیده
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of a standardized silicone liner programme on the duration of prosthetic rehabilitation in patients who underwent transtibial amputation as a result of peripheral arterial disease. METHODS This retrospective study enrolled patients who underwent transtibial amputation followed by one of two stump management programmes at the same rehabilitation centre over a period of 14 years. The study compared the duration of rehabilitation following a standardized silicone liner programme compared with that following a conventional soft dressing programme. RESULTS This study included 16 patients who underwent the silicone liner programme and 11 patients who underwent the soft dressing programme. There were no significant differences between the two groups in age, sex, interval between amputation and admission to the rehabilitation centre and stump length. The duration required for the completion of the rehabilitation programme was significantly shorter for the silicone liner programme compared with the soft dressing programme (mean ± SD: 77.3 days ± 13.4 versus 125.4 days ± 66.4 days, respectively). CONCLUSION A standardized silicone liner programme reduced the duration of rehabilitation and could be a valuable replacement for soft dressing-based stump management.

Clinical evaluation of two prosthetic suspension systems in a bilateral transtibial amputee.
The effects of Seal-In X5 and Dermo liner (Össur) on suspension and patient's comfort in lower limb amputees are unclear. In this report, we consider the case of a 51-yr-old woman with bilateral transtibial amputation whose lower limbs were amputated because of peripheral vascular disease. The subject had bony and painful residual limbs, especially at the distal ends. Two prostheses that used S...
متن کاملTranstibial prosthetic suspension: less pistoning versus easy donning and doffing.
Poor suspension increases slippage of the residual limb inside the socket during ambulation. The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the pistoning at the prosthetic liner-socket interface during gait and assess patients' satisfaction with two different liners. Two prostheses with seal-in and locking liners were fabricated for each of the 10 subjects with transtibial amputation. The Vico...
متن کاملDo rigid dressings reduce the time from amputation to prosthetic fitting? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether application of a rigid dressing (RD) to the residual limb soon after transtibial amputation reduces the time from amputation to the first prosthetic casting/fitting compared with the residual limb managed with a soft dressing (SD). DATA SOURCES Studies in humans were identified by a systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Central Register of...
متن کاملEffect of prosthetic gel liner thickness on gait biomechanics and pressure distribution within the transtibial socket.
Prosthetic gel liners are often prescribed for persons with lower-limb amputations to make the prosthetic socket more comfortable. However, their effects on residual limb pressures and gait characteristics have not been thoroughly explored. This study investigated the effects of gel liner thickness on peak socket pressures and gait patterns of persons with unilateral transtibial amputations. Pr...
متن کاملA clinical comparison between two common transtibial Prosthetic suspension systems
Introduction: Proper fitting of the stump inside the socket and appropriate selection of prosthetic suspension have positive effects on amputees’ satisfaction and could decrease gait deviation, skin problems, and stump atrophy. The suction sockets are commonly prescribed for transtibial amputees to have better suspension compared to the Pin and lock systems. The Seal-In® X5 (suction system) is ...
