The magnetic background strongly influences the motion of the charged particles of relatively low rigidity. Using high time resolution magnetic field data measured by the magnetometer onboard Ulysses, we study the small-scale magnetic structures, including fractal structures and discontinuities. We describe the small-scale magnetic structures with some parameters, including the fractal dimension and frequency of discontinuities. The dependence of these parameters on the heliospheric location and on the sunspot cycle is determined. The implications of the observations on the theories of cosmic ray modulation are discussed.

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملHeliospheric Magnetic Field Configuration at Solar Maximum Conditions: Consequences for Galactic Cosmic Rays
During solar maximum conditions, the heliosphere is highly structured on all spatial scales. It is the purpose of this paper to summarize our current understanding of these structures from global scales to mesoscale, a fraction of 1 AU. We use theoretical considerations, in situ observations near Earth and the Ulysses spacecraft, and global heliosphere calculations to discuss the effects on bot...
متن کاملAn empirical model of heliospheric cosmic ray modulation on long-term time scale
Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs) entering the heliosphere are subject to modulation processes due to variable solar magnetic activity. Finding a relationship between cosmic-ray variations and the heliospheric parameters is important for reconstruction of solar activity in the past. Here, we develop a semi-empirical model describing the heliospheric modulation of GCRs in terms of heliospheric paramet...
متن کاملMagnetic Reconnection as the Cause of Cosmic Ray Excess from the Heliospheric Tail
The observation of a broad excess of sub-TeV cosmic rays compatible with the direction of the heliospheric tail and the discovery of two significant localized excess regions of multi-TeV cosmic rays by the Milagro collaboration, also from the same region of the sky, have raised questions on their origin. In particular, the coincidence of the most significant localized region with the direction ...
متن کاملGeneration of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules
Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...
