چکیده

Introduction: DSC-MRI data from tumors may be confounded by the extravasation of contrast agent (CA) into the extravascular extracellular space (EES), which results in simultaneous changes in the EES T1 and T2*. It is well known that dual-echo acquisitions can eliminate the T1 leakage effects, but we recently demonstrated that such data, when combined with a pre-contrast T1 map, can also be used to quantify the DCE-MRI parameters, K and ve (1). To further verify this approach we compared DSC-MRI and DCE-MRI derived K and ve values in two brain tumor models with dissimilar perfusion characteristics and contrast agent dynamics.

Differentiation of Breast Cancer from Fibroadenoma with Dual-Echo Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE MRI) of the breast is a routinely used imaging method which is highly sensitive for detecting breast malignancy. Specificity, though, remains suboptimal. Dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC MRI), an alternative dynamic contrast imaging technique, evaluates perfusion-related parameters unique from DCE MRI. Prev...

Feasibility of whole-brain dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI using 3D k-t PCA

INTRODUCTION: Quantification of cerebral blood flow using dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI [1] has several advantages over conventional dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MRI [2]. Most importantly, DCE-MRI avoids the inherent susceptibility artifacts of DSC-MRI, thus allowing for more reliable measurement of the arterial input function (AIF) and quantification of blood brain barrier leaka...

Evaluation of ve in a Rat Glioma Model with DCE-MRI and Quantitative SPECT

Introduction Dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) is used to characterize perfusion and extracellular volume in tumors through the tracer kinetic modeling of MRI contrast agents (typically Gd-DTPA). However, the parametric estimates resultant of DCE-MRI may be influenced by several confounding factors, including inter-compartmental water exchange [1]. In contrast to MRI contrast agents, radi...

Intrinsic susceptibility contrast (R2*) in the evaluation of tumour oxygenation at baseline and in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer

Introduction: The ability to image tumour hypoxia and evaluate oxygenation changes in response to treatment using R2* is a powerful yet underexplored tool in breast cancer in humans [1]. This study evaluates the relationship between baseline histology and dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) and dynamic susceptibility enhanced (DSC) MRI parameters with R2* in breast cancer. The role of R2* as an ima...

Assessment of the Agreement between Cerebral Hemodynamic Indices Quantified Using Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast and Dynamic Contrast-enhanced Perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imagings

Background Brain tumor is one of the most common tumors. A successful treatment might be achieved with an early identification. Pathological investigation as the gold standard method for tumor identification has some limitations. Noninvasive assessment of tumor specifications may be possible using perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cerebral blood volume (CBV) and cerebral bloo...
