چکیده

In presented work, long-term operation of a laboratory anaerobic reactor processing food waste is discussed. Food waste is potentially well available municipal bio waste with light biodegradability and with year-long production mostly in big cities. About 200 days of laboratory work were focused on characterization of tested food waste quality as well as on feasibility of biogas production from this bio waste. Food waste, collected from the university canteen, was characterized as feedstock with very high organic content (COD = 265 000 mg/L, VS/TS = 93 %) and with high hydrolysis decay. Mixed anaerobic reactor was operated under mesophilic conditions with organic load values up to 3.0 gVS/ L. d. Average specific biogas production from food waste was 0.94 L/gVS with methane content of 52.8 %. The collected food waste is considered to be a challenging and promising source for co-fermentation and biogas production on real wastewater treatment plants in Slovak towns. Index Terms biogas, bio waste, food waste, waste water treatment sludge, wastewater treatment plant.

Application of anaerobic digestion products of municipal solid food wastes in treating wastewaters

Anaerobic digestion is the breakdown of biodegradable organic material by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-starved environment. This technology is superior to the landfilling and also the aerobic composting. The aim of the present study was to examine whether the effluent Volatile Fatty Acids from the anaerobic acidogenesis of the food waste can be used du to its high valu...

More Information www.agilent.com/chem/icpms Introduction Biogas is the term used to describe the mixture of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and other components resulting from the anaerobic fermentation of a variety of biodegradable materials including animal waste, domestic sewage sludge and municipal landfill waste. Because of its methane content (40-75%), biogas can be used as a substitute...

Polyhydroxyalkanoate production from fermented volatile fatty acids: effect of pH and feeding regimes.

The combined fermentation of sludge from the secondary sedimentation tank of municipal wastewater treatment plants and food waste enables not only waste reduction, but also the acquisition of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) for the biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). To better understand variables influencing the production of VFAs and PHAs, this study considered anaerobic fermentation of...

Microalgae Cultivation on Anaerobic Digestate of Municipal Wastewater, Sewage Sludge and Agro-Waste

Microalgae are fast-growing photosynthetic organisms which have the potential to be exploited as an alternative source of liquid fuels to meet growing global energy demand. The cultivation of microalgae, however, still needs to be improved in order to reduce the cost of the biomass produced. Among the major costs encountered for algal cultivation are the costs for nutrients such as CO₂, nitroge...

Operating problems in anaerobic digestion plants resulting from nitrogen in MSW.

Organic waste and municipal solid waste usually contain considerable amounts of different nitrogen compounds, which may inhibit anaerobic degradation processes and cause problems in the downstream and peripheral devices. This refers particularly to the different process stages of anaerobic digestion, to wastewater treatment, and to exhaust air treatment. Neither the knowledge about nitrogen pro...
