چکیده

A large-scale data set including time-lapse (4D) elastic attributes and electrical resistivity is generated with the purpose of testing algorithms for reservoir modeling, reservoir characterization, production forecasting, and especially joint time-lapse monitoring using seismic as well as electromagnetic data. The Stanford VI reservoir, which was originally created by Castro et al. (2005), is a three-layer prograding fluvial channel system, and its structure corresponds to an asymmetric anticline with axis N15°E. The reservoir provides an exhaustive data set (6 million cells) of petrophysical properties, seismic attributes, as well as time-lapse seismic data. Due to the need of testing field management algorithms using time-lapse electromagnetic and seismic data, several extensions and modifications are incorporated into an updated version of the data set, named as Stanford VI-E reservoir. Archie’s method (1942) and Waxman-Smits model (1968) are applied to create electrical resistivity for sand and shale facies respectively. Also, the rock physics models for seismic velocities are improved to give more realistic 4D seismic data. Flow simulation with different fluids within facies is performed to obtain the changes in saturation after oil production. Based on the result of the flow simulation, electrical resistivity and elastic attributes are calculated at different times during production.

Sensitivity analysis of time lapse gravity for monitoring fluid saturation changes in a giant multi-phase gas reservoir located in south of Iran

The time lapse gravity method is a widely used technique to monitor the subsurface density changes in time and space. In hydrocarbon reservoirs, the density variations are due to different factors, such as: substitution of fluids with high density contrast, water influx, gas injection, and the variation in reservoir geomechanical behavior. Considering the monitoring of saturation changes in the...

3D and 4D Seismic Data Integration in Static and Dynamic Reservoir Modeling: A Review

Reservoir modeling is the process of generating numerical representations of reservoir conditions and properties on the basis of geological, geophysical, and engineering data measured on the Earth’s surface or in depth at a limited number of borehole locations. Therefore, reservoir modeling requires an incorporation of the data from a variety of sources, along with an integration of knowledge a...

Reservoir characterization and inversion uncertainty via a family of Particle Swarm Optimizers and differential evolution. Application to the synthetic Stanford VI reservoir

History matching provides to the reservoir engineers an improved spatial distribution of physical properties to be used in forecasting the reservoir response for field management. The ill-posed character of the history matching problem yields non-uniqueness and numerical instabilities that increase with the reservoir complexity. These features might cause local optimization methods to provide u...

Time - lapse image registration using the local similarity attribute a

We present a method for registration of time-lapse seismic images based on the local similarity attribute. We define registration as an automatic point-by-point alignment of time-lapse images. Stretching and squeezing a monitor image and computing its local similarity to the base image allows us to detect an optimal registration even in the presence of significant velocity changes in the overbu...
