Cell-mediated immunity in ferrets. Delayed dermal hypersensitivity, lymphocyte transformation, and macrophage migration inhibitory factor production.

چکیده
Cell-mediated immune reactions delayed dermal hypersensitivity, lymphocyte transformation, and macrophage migration inhibitory factor production were investigated in the ferret. Ferrets immunized with streptokinase in complete Freund's adjuvant had skin test responses characterized by induration with little erythema; skin test biopsies showed mononuclear cell infiltration. In vitro transformation of peripheral blood or splenic lymphocytes was elicited by phytohemagglutinin, concanavalin A, pokeweed mitogen, and streptoklnase; macrophagemigratlon inhibitory factor was produced by spleen cells from immunized ferrets. These studies confirm the usefulness of certain tests of cellmediated immunity in ferrets.

Migration inhibitory factor and macrophage bactericidal function.
A homogeneous population of immunologically active lymphocytes was obtained from peritoneal exudates of guinea pigs with delayed hypersensitivity to bovine gamma globulin (BGG). The lymphocytes were cultured with and without BGG for 24 hr, and cell-free supernatant fluids were then assayed simultaneously for their ability to influence two in vitro parameters of macrophage function: migration fr...

Mice immunized with three injections of gamma-irradiated Karp strain of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi were evaluated for the presence of cell-mediated immunity by using delayed-type hypersensitivity, antigen-induced lymphocyte proliferation, and antigen-induced lymphokine production. These animals also were evaluated for levels of circulating antibody after immunization as well as for the presence o...
متن کامل. EVIDENCE : FOR A RECEPTOR : FOR MIF PRESEHT ON TtIE PERITONEAL
The capillary tube technique for assaying macrophage migration (1) has been widely used in studies on cellular immunity and has allowed a better understanding of lymphocyte-macrophage interaction associated with the expression of delayed hypersensitivity. The sensitive lymphocyte on exposure to specific antigen (2, 3) has been shown to produce a soluble effector molecule called migration inhibi...
متن کاملCell-mediated immunity in Herpesvirus hominis infections.
The cell-mediated and antibody responses to Herpesvirus hominis type 1 were investigated in patients with primary and recurrent herpetic infections. Stimulation of lymphocyte transformation with the virus and the complement fixing antibody titre did not differ significantly between patients and controls. However, macrophage migration inhibition and lymphocyte cytotoxicity were impaired in patie...
متن کاملProduction of Macrophage Migration Inhibition Factor by Continuous Cell Lines
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) was found in media of human and mouse lymphocyte and fibroblast cell lines that were continuously growing. Its release was dependent on activation of the cells to enter the mitotic cycle, particularly on cells in S phase. The greatest quantity of MIF was detected in supernatants of lymphocytes collected during S phase after the cells were synchronize...
