Synchronous Detection of Beam Induced Pulses*

چکیده

This note describes a type of detector which will be used for measuring the amplitudes of short beam induced pulses such as the ones received from a small pick-up electrode. The circuit is called "synchronous "I because it takes a sample of the quantity to be measured in synchronism with the pulse repetition rate; the data can be averaged over many samples such as is done for the measurement of the beam position, or the detector output can be observed directly, without any filtering, as is the case when bunch oscillations are sought. Emphasis was put on three areas in this design: linearity, large dynamic range and immunity to timing variations, Linearily and absence of "knee", or dead zone near the origin, is important for beam position monitoring since they influence the normalization factor; the inputoutput characteristic of this circuit departs from a straight line by less than 1% of full-scale over four decades of input signal variation. The timing of the detector trigger can change by +_2 nsec without impairing the above specifications.

Manipulating Synchronous Optical Signals with a Double Λ Atomic Ensemble

We analyze a double Λ atomic configuration interacting with two signal beams and two control beams. Because of the quantum interference between the two Λ channels, the four fields are phase-matched in electromagnetically induced transparency. Our numerical simulation shows that this system is able to manipulate synchronous optical signals, such as generation of optical twin signals, data correc...

Ultrafast stress pulse detection by laser beam deflection

We describe a direct method for the detection of optically excited ultrashort stress pulses in thin films using a time-resolved pump and probe scheme. Changes in the surface profile are monitored by the angular deflection of a probe beam. Application to the detection of interfacial layers is also demonstrated. The time-resolved detection of high frequency phonons excited by picosecond or femtos...

Internal Fault Detection, Location, and Classification in Stator Winding of the Synchronous Generators Based on the Terminal Voltage Waveform

In this paper, a novel method is presented for detection and classification of the faultyphase/region in the stator winding of synchronous generators on the basis of the resulting harmoniccomponents that appear in the terminal voltage waveforms. Analytical results obtained through DecisionTree (DT) show that the internal faults are not only detectable but also they can be classified andthe rela...

Analysis and Diagnosis of Partial Discharge of Power Capacitors Using Extension Neural Network Algorithm and Synchronous Detection Based Chaos Theory

Power capacitors are important equipment of the power systems that are being operated in high voltage levels at high temperatures for long periods. As time goes on, their insulation fracture rate increases, and partial discharge is the most important cause of their fracture. Therefore, fast and accurate methods have great importance to accurately diagnosis the partial discharge. Conventional me...

A Simple Analytic Method to Model and Detect Non-Uniform Air-Gaps in Synchronous Generators

The air-gap of electrical machines may become non-uniform due to low accuracy of the manufacturing machinery, in assembling processes, or by aging. Detection and monitoring of this phenomenon is very important and of interest. There are several methods to model non-uniform air-gaps and to detect them by monitoring systems. One of the most widely used methods is by the analysis of the line curre...
