Inflammatory Pseudotumor of the Pituitary Gland Mimicking a Pituitary Adenoma: A Case Report

چکیده
which is usually preoperatively diagnosed as a pituitary adenoma, is a very rare non-neoplastic lesion. We report a case of a fibrosing inflammatory pseudotumor located in the pituitary gland, that presented with abducens nerve palsy and was confirmed by histopathological analysis. Knowledge of the imaging features of inflammatory pseudotumors can help avoid unnecessary radical surgery prior to histopathological proof of malignancy.

Xanthomatous Hypophysitis Mimicking a Pituitary Adenoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Background. Hypophysitis is an inflammatory disease of the pituitary gland that may mimic pituitary tumors clinically and radiologically. Case Description. We report a case of a xanthomatous hypophysitis initially diagnosed as pituitary adenoma. A 31-year-old woman presented with headache, diabetes insipidus, and amenorrhea. A head CT scan showed no intrasellar changes, while an MRI scan showed...
متن کاملCase Report: Co-Occurrence of Pituitary Adenoma with Suprasellar and Olfactory Groove Meningiomas
Introduction: The co-existence of pituitary adenoma and meningioma is extremely rare. It is even rarer in patients with no previous known risk factors for either tumour. Here, we present a case of synchronous non-functioning pituitary adenoma with suprasellar and olfactory groove meningiomas in a patient without previous irradiation. Methods: The tumours were diagnosed on MRI in the 65-year-ol...
متن کاملCoexisting Pituitary Adenoma and Suprasellar Meningioma: A Coincidence or Causation Effect? Report of Two Cases and Review of Literature
Background and Importance: The coexistence of pituitary adenoma and another type of brain tumor is a very rare clinical scenario. Even though such a presentation can be an incidental event but the possible pathogenesis of coexistence of different lesions in the sella and suprasellar region has not yet been elucidated. Case Presentation: Two cases of concomitant sellar and suprasellar region ...
متن کاملBilateral Tolosa-Hunt syndrome mimicking pituitary adenoma
The authors report a rare case of bilateral Tolosa-Hunt syndrome, which occurred in a 80-year-old female and remitted spontaneously. Inflammatory lesions were found not only in typical locations, i.e. superior orbital fissures and cavernous sinuses, but also in the pituitary; these imitated gland's macroadenoma in imaging studies.
متن کاملUnusual Presentation of Lacrimal Gland Pleomorphic Adenoma.
The pleomorphic adenoma of lacrimal gland presents as a painless, progressive, slowly growing supero-temporal swelling with variable proptosis. This tumor is usually found in adults and extremely rare in teenage. We report a case of a 15-year-old boy with pleomorphic adenoma of lacrimal gland which mimicked pseudotumor of orbit due to its presentation as an orbital inflammatory disease and the ...
