چکیده

MRI is unique in its ability to non-invasively and selectively alter tissue magnetization, and create tag planes intersecting image slices. The resulting grid of signal voids allows for tracking deformations of tissues in otherwise homogeneous-signal myocardial regions. In this paper, we propose a speciic Spatial Modulation of Magnetization (SPAMM) imaging protocol together with eecient techniques for measurement of 3D motion of material points of the human heart from images collected with the SPAMM method. The techniques make use of tagged images in orthogonal views by explicitly reconstructing 3D B-spline surface representation of each tag plane (two intersecting the short-axis (SA) image slices and one intersecting the long-axis (LA) image slices). The developed methods allow for viewing deformations of 3D tag surfaces, spatial correspondence of long-axis and short-axis image slice and tag positions, as well as non-rigid movement of myocardial material points as a function of time.

Accurate delineation of the volumetric motion of left ventri-cle (LV) of the heart over time from tagged MRI is an important area of research. We have built a system that takes tagged short-axis (SA) and long-axis (LA) image sequences as input, ts a 4D B-spline model to the LV of the heart by simultaneously tting knot solids to the SA and LA frame sequences via matching 3 sequences of model kno...

3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)

Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Myocardial Strain Imaging with Tagged MRI

A 4-D B-spline model has been created to accurately capture the dynamic motion of the heart from tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enabling displacement field reconstruction of myocardial deformation. The 4-D model is allowed to deform based on the location of the tag lines for all frames within the constraints of the model’s spatiotemporal internal energy. From a displacement field, the ...

Building and using a statistical 3D motion atlas for analyzing myocardial contraction in MRI

We address the issue of modeling and quantifying myocardial contraction from 4D MR sequences, and present an unsupervised approach for building and using a statistical 3D motion atlas for the normal heart. This approach relies on a state-of-the-art variational non rigid registration (NRR) technique using generalized information measures, which allows for robust intra-subject motion estimation a...
