Modified Catmull-Clark Methods for Modelling, Reparameterization and Grid Generation

چکیده
In this paper we demonstrate that subdivision schemes can be used for modelling and grid generation in aeronautical projects such as that in the collaborative research center SFB401 at the RWTH Aachen: F low Modulation and Fluid-Structure Interaction at Airplane Wings. To make the schemes usable for this purposes their rules have to be modified in such a way that the limit surfaces have the desired properties. Furthermore fast algorithms for evaluation and approximation of existing surfaces have to be developed. Introduction We start with a short survey on the history of subdivision. At least fifty years ago the first papers on subdivision were published. In 1947 de Rham’s first articles on corner cutting appeared [1]. He suggested to do corner cutting with ratio 1 : 1 : 1 (compare Figure 1). From the start polygon with vertices P0, P1, . . . ,Pn−1 all the vertices Pi are split the following way (the indices of the old vertices Pi have to be computed modulo n) P0 → { Q2n−1 = (2 ·P0 +Pn−1)/3 Q0 = (2 ·P0 +P1)/3 P1 → { Q1 = (2 ·P1 +P0)/3 Q2 = (2 ·P1 +P2)/3 .. Pi → { Q2i−1 = (2 ·Pi +Pi−1)/3 Q2i = (2 ·Pi +Pi+1)/3 (1)

Beyond Catmull-Clark? A Survey of Advances in Subdivision Surface Methods
Subdivision surfaces allow smooth freeform surface modelling without topological constraints. They have become a fundamental representation for smooth geometry, particularly in the animation and entertainment industries. This survey summarizes research on subdivision surfaces over the last fifteen years in three major strands: analysis, integration into existing systems, and the development of ...
متن کاملParametrization of General Catmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces and its Applications
A new parametrization technique and its applications for general Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces are presented. The new technique extends J. Stam’s work by redefining all the eigen basis functions in the parametric representation for general Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces and giving each of them an explicit form. Therefore, the new representation can be used not only for evaluation purpo...
متن کاملImproving the Parameterization of Approximate Subdivision Surfaces
We provide a method for improving the parameterization of patching schemes that approximate Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces, such that the new parameterization conforms better to that of the original subdivision surface. We create this reparameterization in real-time using a method that only depends on the topology of the surface and is independent of the surface’s geometry. Our method can h...
متن کاملSmooth multi-sided blending of biquadratic splines
Biquadratic (bi-2) splines are the simplest choice for converting a regular quad meshes into smooth tensor-product spline surfaces. Existing methods for blending three, five or more such bi-2 spline surfaces using surface caps consisting of pieces of low polynomial degree suffer from artifacts ranging from flatness to oscillations. The new construction, based on reparameterization of the bi-2 s...
متن کاملA New Control Method for Single-Phase Grid-Connected Inverter Using Instantaneous Power Theory
Because of installation for local consumers and since it is free of all contaminations, connecting photovoltaic cells to the grid via single-phase inverter is significantly on the rise. In this paper, a new simple current control is proposed for a single-phase grid-connected voltage source inverter. Using the PQ theory and modelling a single-phase system as an unbalanced three-phase system, a m...
