The condition of veins mentioned by Surgeon-Captain Younge is not invariable in what we call pyajmia. We present a preterm (32 weeks; weight 1300 g) neonate, with solitary hepatic abscess. The causative organism was Klebsiella. The child presented with septicemia, hepatomegaly and abdominal lump. Radiological investigations were inconclusive. Surgical drainage and prolonged antibiotic treatment led to resolution of the hepatic abscess.
