چکیده

Harmonic analysis is applied to analyze the transmission of bandlimited signals via spike trains generated by a pair of leaky integrate-and-fire (LIF) model neurons organized in a push-pull, or ‘on/off’, configuration. It is found that lowpass signals can be transmitted with only moderate distortion utilizing mean spike rates with many spikes per signal coherence time. The transmission of bandpass signals is accomplished through phase locking of the output spikes to the input signal over a wide range of frequencies, using one or two spikes per coherence time of the signal, but in this case with limited dynamic range in amplitude. Noise-free LIF-generated spike trains decoded with linear filters can transmit information at an average rate of 2-3 bits per spike.

Robust Estimation of Sparse Narrowband Spectra from Binary Neuronal Spiking Data

Objective: Characterizing the spectral properties of neuronal responses is an important problem in computational neuroscience, as it provides insight into the spectral organization of the underlying functional neural processes. Although spectral analysis techniques are widely used in the analysis of noninvasive neural recordings such as EEG, their application to spiking data is limited due to t...

Phase control of excitable systems

Here we study how to control the dynamics of excitable systems by using the phase control technique. Excitable systems are relevant in neuronal dynamics and therefore this method might have important applications. We use the periodically driven FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) model, which displays both spiking and non-spiking behaviours in chaotic or periodic regimes. The phase control technique consists...

(S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine )an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors( induced synaptic potentiation at excitatory synapses on fast spiking GABAergic cells in visual cortex

Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...

The Signal and Noise Analysis of Direct Conversion EHM Transceivers

A direct conversion modulator-demodulator with even harmonic mixers with emphasis on noise analysis is presented. The circuits consist of even harmonic mixers (EHMs) realized with antiparallel diode pairs (APDPs). We evaluate the different levels of I/Q imbalances and DC offsets and use signal space concepts to analyze the bit error rate (BER) of the proposed transceiver using M-ary QAM schemes...

Functional correlations between neighboring neurons in the primate globus pallidus are weak or nonexistent.

The anatomical structure of the basal ganglia displays topographical organization and massive funneling of neuronal projections toward the globus pallidus as well as an axonal collateral system within this nucleus. This structure suggests the formation of correlations between the spiking activities of pallidal cells. Nevertheless, previous studies of remote neurons in the pallidum have reported...
