Evaluation of Voltage Flicker Emissions of Variable Speed Dfig-based Wind Turbines

چکیده
Wind-energy systems cause fluctuations more than any other sources and hence, voltage fluctuations are expected with these units. This paper addresses the problem of voltage fluctuation caused by doubly fed induction generators (DFIG)-based variable-speed wind turbines. Flicker emission of these units is investigated during continuous operation. The effects of grid strength, angle of grid impedance and site parameters, such as wind speed and wind turbulence, on voltage fluctuation are investigated. A flickermeter model, implemented according to IEC61000-4-15, and all system components are implemented in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Finally, a comparison between variable-speed and constant-speed technologies, related to short-term flicker severity is introduced.

Analysis, Modeling and Control of Doubly-Fed Induction Generators for Wind Turbines
This thesis deals with the analysis, modeling, and control of the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) for wind turbines. Different rotor current control methods are investigated with the objective of eliminating the influence of the back electromotive force (EMF), which is that of, in control terminology, a load disturbance, on the rotor current. It is found that the method that utilizes both...
متن کاملIndividual Pitch Control of Variable Speed Wind Turbines with DFIG by Flicker Mitigation
Due to the wind speed variation, wind shear and tower shadow effects, grid connected wind turbines are the sources of power fluctuations which may produce flicker during continuous operation. This paper presents a model of an MW-level variable speed wind turbine with a doubly fed induction generatorto investigate the flicker emission and mitigation issues. An individual pitch control (IPC) stra...
متن کاملModeling of Wind Turbines Equipped with Induction Machines for Voltage Profile Studies Using PSCAD
As a result of increasing environmental concern, more and more electricity is generated from wind turbines. Therefore, adequate models to study the impact of wind turbines on electrical power system behavior are needed. One of the most important considerations is the effect of wind turbines on the voltage profile, i.e. the induced slow voltage variations, which are the subject of this paper. Th...

Nowadays, the doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) based wind turbines (WTs) are the dominant type of WTs connected to grid. Traditionally the back-to-back converters are used to control the DFIGs. In this paper, an Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) is proposed to control the generator. Compared with back-to-back converters, IMCs have numerous advantages such as: higher level of robustness, re...
متن کاملBehavior of DFIG Wind Turbines with Crowbar Protection under Short Circuit
Doubly Fed Induction Generators DFIG are nowadays widely used in variable speed wind power plants. The dynamic interaction between variable speed DFIG wind turbines and the power system which is subjected to disturbances, such as short circuit faults, is an important issue. The ability of the wind power plant to stay connected to the grid during disturbances is important to avoid a cascading ef...
