Revisiting the dedifferentiation hypothesis with longitudinal multi-cohort data
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present longitudinal multi-cohort study examines whether interindividual variability in cognitive performance and change increases in old age, and whether associations among developments of different cognitive functions increase with adult age. Multivariate multiple-group latent growth modeling was applied to data from narrow cohorts separated by five years of age. Tests assessing episodic recall, semantic knowledge, semantic fluency, and visuospatial ability were administered to 1000 non-demented adults (initially aged 35–80 years), participating in the Betula Project at three occasions over a 10-year period. Greater interindividual differences in change were noted in older age groups. Age-related increases in correlations among performance scores were noted for different cognitive measures beginning in old age, but not earlier. Our study supports a dynamic view of dedifferentiation of cognitive aging. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Revisiting Energy-GDP Nexus for the Selected Countries of the Middle East Region
This paper investigates the relationship between total energy consumption and GDP in six countries of the Middle East , including Iran,Pakistan,Saudi Arabia,Oman,Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The data are annual and spanning the period 1980-2012.We employed Hsiao’s (1981) methodology to examine causality relation between total energy consumption and GDP.The empirical findings show a uni...
متن کاملCross-sectional and longitudinal patterns of dedifferentiation in late-life cognitive and sensory function: the effects of age, ability, attrition, and occasion of measurement.
The dedifferentiation hypothesis is examined with respect to age-group differences, ability-group differences, attrition-group differences, and time. Cognitive and sensory data were analyzed from individuals (n = 1,823) who completed a clinical assessment on at least 1 of 3 occasions of measurement in the Australian Longitudinal Study of Ageing. Inconsistent dedifferentiation effects were assoc...
متن کاملRevisiting the Effects of Growth Uncertainty on Inflation in Iran:An Application of GARCH-in-Mean Models
This paper investigates the relationship between inflation and growth uncertainty in Iran for the period of 1988-2008 by using quarterly data. We employ Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity in Mean (GARCH-M) model to estimate time-varying conditional residual variance of growth, as a standard measures of growth uncertainty. The empirical evidence shows that growth uncertain...
متن کاملLongitudinal Discriminant Analysis with Random Effects for Predicting Preeclampsia using Hematocrit Data
Background and Objectives: Preeclampsia is the third leading cause of death in pregnant women. This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of longitudinal hematocrit data to predict preeclampsia and to compare the accuracy in longitudinal and cross-sectional data. Materials and Methods: In a prospective cohort study from October 2010 to July 2011, 650 pregnant women referred to the prenata...
متن کاملExtension of Logic regression to Longitudinal data: Transition Logic Regression
Logic regression is a generalized regression and classification method that is able to make Boolean combinations as new predictive variables from the original binary variables. Logic regression was introduced for case control or cohort study with independent observations. Although in various studies, correlated observations occur due to different reasons, logic regression have not been studi...
