Study on residual stresses of thin-walled injection molding

چکیده
The residual stresses of the thin-walled injection molding are investigated in this study. It was realized that the behavior of residual stresses in injection molding parts was affected by different process conditions such as melt temperature, mold temperature, packing pressure and filling time. The layer removal method was used to measure the residual stresses at a thin-walled test sample by a milling machine. This simple method was demonstrated to be adequate for a thin-walled part. Moldings under different conditions were investigated to study the effects of the process conditions on the residual stresses of a thin-walled product using the elastic and viscoelastic models. The mold temperature was found to affect the size of the core region and residual stress on the surface layer of a thin-walled part in our studied range. The packing pressure was insensitive to the residual stresses in the studied high-pressure range. The residual stresses predicted by the viscoelastic model are about the same level and trend as compared to the experimental measurement. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Plastic injection molding is discontinuous and a complicated process involving the interaction of several variables for control the quality of the molded parts. The goal of this research was to investigate the optimal parameter selection, the significant parameters, and the effect of the injection-molding parameters during the post-filling stage (packing pressure, packing time, mold temperature...
متن کاملUltimate Load Capacity and Behavior of Thin-Walled Curved-Steel Square Struts, Subjected to Compressive Load
There have been some experimental tests on hollow curved-steel struts with thin-walled square sections, in order to investigate their general behavior, particularly their capacity for bearing differing loads. One set of square tubes are cold-formed into segments of circular arcs with curvature radii, equal to 4000 mm. Different lengths of curved struts are fabricated so as to cover a practical ...
متن کاملNumerical simulation analysis of the in-cavity residual stress distribution of lignocellulosic (wood) polymer composites used in shallow thin-walled parts
In this paper, a numerical analysis of in-cavity residual stress formation in the thin-walled parts of injection-moulded parts is presented by considering the residual stresses produced during the post-filling stage. Injection moulding of shallow thin-walled parts with a thickness of 0.7 mm was performed using lignocellulosic polymer composites (PP + 50 wt% wood), and the parts have been system...

For studying the influence of a bilateral slid rolling process (BSRP) on the surface integrity of a thin-walled aluminum alloy structure, and revealing the generation mechanism of residual stresses, a self-designed BSRP appliance was used to conduct rolling experiments. With the aid of a surface optical profiler, an X-ray stress analyzer, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM), the difference...

Process analysis and simulations on molding experiments of 3D thin shell parts have been conducted. Moldings were carried out with polyoxymethylene (POM). The moldings were performed with cavity pressure sensors in order to compare experimental process results with simulations. The warpage was characterized by measuring distances using a tactile coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Molding simul...
