The Nexus between Finance, Growth and Poverty in India: The Cointegration and Causality Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
The paper examines the causal nexus between financial development, economic growth and poverty reduction in India during 1951-2008. The empirical analysis is based on cointegration and causality test. The cointegration test finds the presence of long run equilibrium relationship between financial development, economic growth and poverty reduction. The Granger causality test at the end confirms the presence of unidirectional causality from poverty reduction to economic growth, economic growth to finance development, financial development to poverty reduction and economic growth to poverty reduction. It also finds no causality between finance development and economic growth, and poverty reduction and finance development. The paper suggests that economic growth is considered as the policy variable to accelerate finance development and both could be used as the policy variable to reduce poverty in the economy.

This study aims to evaluate the link between economic growth and consumer price index (CPI) in Japan for the period of 1980-2014. Initial series were adjusted for stationarity using the Augmented Dickey- Fuller (ADF) test for unit root followed by the application of Johansen Co-integration Test in order to examine the long-run relationship among the variables, while the causalities were evaluat...

The aim of this study is to examine the nexus between exchange rate volatility and foreign capital inflows in Nigeria. The results from the past empirical studies about this subject matter have been controversial, which has created a gap in the literature. The study extracted data from CBN Statistical Bulletin and UNCTAD investment report from 1990-2016. Consequently, the findings that emerged ...

This study investigates the causal nexus between public expenditure and economic growth in India using cointegration approach and error correction model. The analysis was carried out over the period 1973 to 2012. The Cointegration test result confirms the existence of long-run equilibrium relationship between public expenditure and economic growth in India. The empirical results based on the er...

T his empirical analysis endeavors to trace out the causal nexus between core inflation and economic growth from the perspective of twenty worlds’ leading economy with the help of the nonlinear Granger causality approach by using time series data from 1981 to 2016. Based on nonlinear Granger causality results, it has been found that there is unidirectional casualty running from core ...
متن کاملExploring the Trade Openness, Energy Consumption and Economic Growth Relationship in Iran by Bayer and Hanck Combined Cointegration and Causality Analysis
This paper aims to investigate the direction of causality between economic growth, energy consumption and trade openness in case of Iran for the period 1967–2012. We apply the newly developed combined cointegration test proposed by Bayer and Hanck (2013). Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) is applied to determine the direction of causality between these three variables. The result of Bayer-Ha...
