R2* for myocardial iron quantification at 3T CMR using an advanced shimming algorithm

چکیده
Background Quantification of myocardial iron overload is critical for the management of patients with hemochromatosis. T2* relaxation time or its inverse R2*, are currently the noninvasive gold standard at 1.5T, as they strongly correlate with myocardial iron concentration, and are obtained using a fast single breath-hold ECG-gated multi-echo GRE sequence. However, due to high sensitivity to B0 inhomogeneities, R2* (1/T2*) quantification at 3T is still challenging. We aimed to evaluate if a recently developed advanced shimming protocol based on a GRE double-echo fieldmap acquisition, can improve the performance of R2* quantification at 3T.

Three-dimensional balanced steady state free precession myocardial perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance at 3T using dual-source parallel RF transmission: initial experience
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to establish the feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state-free-precession (bSSFP) myocardial perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) at 3T using local RF shimming with dual-source RF transmission, and to compare it with spoiled gradient echo (TGRE) acquisition. METHODS Dynamic contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP perfusion imaging wa...
متن کاملRobust myocardial T2 and T2* mapping at 3T
PURPOSE Intramyocardial hemorrhage and area at risk are both prognostic markers in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Myocardial T2 and T2 * mapping have been used to detect such tissue changes at 1.5T but these techniques are challenging at 3.0T due to additional susceptibility variation. We studied T2 and T2 * myocardial mapping techniques at 3.0T on a system employing B1 shimming and compare...
متن کاملArtifact suppression of SSFP cine sequences at 3T using a novel automatic 3D shimming algorithm
Methods A total of 20 consecutive patients scheduled to undergo a clinically indicated CMR in normal sinus rhythm and able to perform apnea were prospectively enrolled to be scanned in a 3T system (MAGNETOM Verio, Siemens, Germany). Frequency scout images were acquired in two and four chamber views and the frequency offset associated with least banding artifacts involving the heart was manually...
متن کاملQuantitative assessment of magnetic resonance derived perfusion measurements using advanced techniques: comparison with microspheres in an explanted pig heart system
Background Quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) myocardial perfusion imaging has the potential to evolve into a routine clinical method allowing for the assessment of myocardial blood flow (MBF). Multiple quantification pathways are available based on different algorithms. These algorithms involve complex modeling and quantitative results may not necessarily be the same. At pres...
متن کاملMyocardial iron quantification using modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) T1 mapping at 3 Tesla
Background Quantification of myocardial iron overload is critical for the management of patients with hemochromatosis. The effects of excess iron on T1 and T2* relaxation times correlate directly with tissue iron concentration. T2* became the clinical standard at 1.5T as it can be easily obtained in a fast one breath-hold ECG gated multi-echo GRE sequence. At 3T, however, T2* quantification can...
