چکیده
We recall the history of the transportation (Kantorovich) metric and the Monge–Kantorovich problem. We also describe several little-known applications: the first one concerns the theory of decreasing sequences of partitions (tower of measures and iterated metric), the second one relates to Ornstein's theory of Bernoulli automorphisms (¯ d-metric), and the third one is the formulation of the strong Monge–Kantorovich problem in terms of matrix distributions. Bibliography: 30 titles.

In this paper we propose a new perspective on the evolution and history of the idea of mathematical proof. Proofs will be studied at three levels: syntactical, semantical and pragmatical. Computer-assisted proofs will be give a special attention. Finally, in a highly speculative part, we will anticipate the evolution of proofs under the assumption that the quantum computer will materialize. We ...
متن کاملA life table for Psittacosaurus lujiatunensis: initial insights into ornithischian dinosaur population biology.
Very little is known about nonavian dinosaur population biology. Multi-individual sampling and longevity estimation using growth line counts can be used to construct life tables-the foundation for population analyses in ecology. Here we have determined the size and age distribution for a sample consisting of 80 individuals of the small ornithischian, Psittacosaurus lujiatunensis from the early ...

We investigate the evolutionary status of four stars: V348 Sgr, DY Cen and MV Sgr in the Galaxy and HV 2671 in the LMC. These stars have in common random deep declines in visual brightness which are characteristic for R Coronae Borealis (RCB) stars. RCB stars are typically cool, hydrogen deficient supergiants. The four stars studied in this paper are hotter (Teff = 15-20 kK) than the majority o...

The measurement of force distributions in sandpiles provides a useful way to test concepts and models of the way forces propagate within noncohesive granular materials. Recent theory [1–3] by Bouchaud et al. implies that the internal structure of a heap (and therefore the force pathway) is a strong function of the construction history. In general, it is difficult to obtain information that coul...
