چکیده
Introduction Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and is usually transmitted by the bite of an infected tick (Ixodes ricinus). It represents the most common vector-borne illness in Europe. Expanding annular rash (erythema migrans), myalgia, arthralgia, arthritis and neurological symptoms such as facial palsy and lymphocytic meningoradiculitis are typical symptoms. In about 10–15% of patients the peripheral or central nervous system is involved [1, 2]. We describe a patient with cerebral ischemia caused by cerebral vasculitis, a rare and atypical manifestation of the disease.

Cerebral vasculitis and intracranial multiple aneurysms in a child with Lyme neuroborreliosis
Introduction. Lyme borreliosis is a multisystem tick-borne disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. Neurological manifestations are reported in up to 15 % of adult patients with Lyme disease, while the frequency among children is higher. The most common manifestations are painful radiculopathy, facial nerve paresis and lymphocytic meningitis. Epileptic seizures and cerebral vasculitis with strok...
متن کاملCerebral Aneurysm in Lyme Neuroborreliosis with Regression After Medical Treatment
Lyme disease in the United States is caused predominantly by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and affects multiple organ systems. Lyme Borreliosis infrequently involves the peripheral and central nervous system, and the term Neuroborreliosis is used for the latter case. The most common manifestations of Neuroborreliosis include cranial neuropathy and lymphocytic meningitis. It can also cause...
متن کاملCerebrovascular Manifestations of Lyme Neuroborreliosis—A Systematic Review of Published Cases
BACKGROUND Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) is a disease caused by spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, involving the nervous system. It usually manifests as lymphocytic meningoradiculitis, but in rare cases, it can also lead to cerebrovascular complications. We aimed to perform a systematic review of all reported cases of LNB complicated by central nervous system vasculitis and stroke or transient isch...
متن کاملDistinguishing Characteristics of Primary Retinal Vasculitis from Eales Disease
Retinal vasculitis is a poorly characterized, potentially sight-threatening, inflammatory ocular condition that occurs when there is the presence of abnormal blood vessels in the retina. The annual incidence of retinal vasculitis in the United States is estimated at 1-2 per 100,000 with variation between regions. Because it is not well understood, the definition of “retinal vasculitis” is not w...
متن کاملStroke as an Unusual First Presentation of Lyme Disease
Introduction. Lyme neuroborreliosis is a nervous system infection caused by spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi with diverse neurological complications. Stroke due to cerebral vasculitis is a rare consequence of neuroborreliosis and has been described in just a few case reports. Case Presentation. Here, we report the case of a 43-year-old patient who presented with discrete left-sided hemiparesis a...
