Central Giant Cell Granuloma of the Jaw Bones: A Review

چکیده
Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is an uncommon, benign, proliferative, and nonodontogenic lesion whose etiology is not defined. Thought to represent a reparative response to intrabony haemorrhage and inflammation, CGCG was once regarded as a reactive lesion. Central giant cell granuloma usually is an asymptomatic lesion, which may become evident during routine radiographic examination or as a result of painless but visible expansion of the affected jaw. The clinical differential diagnosis for a solitary or multilocular CGCG includes ameloblastoma, odontogenic myxoma, and odontogenic keratocyst. Here, we present a review on the clinical, radiological, histological features of central giant cell granuloma along with discussion on treatment modalities.

Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC), Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) and aggressive central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) are rare pathologic diseases affecting the jaws. While the Co-existence of two of them is reported in the literature, existence of all three conditions in one patient is an extremely rare entity. In the present report, initial biopsy revealed fibrosarcoma, therefore mandibular...

INTRODUCTON: Many lesions of the jaws contain giant cells, they include Peripheral giant cell granuloma, Central giant cell granuloma, aneurismal bone cyst, brown tumor of hyperparathyroidism and early stage of cherubism. Giant cell granuloma which is a benign bone lesion that occurs mainly in the jaws are not tumor but tumor like conditions, the cause of tumor like condition is chronic truma w...
متن کاملCentral Giant Cell Granuloma of the Jaws: Correlation between Vascularity and Biologic Behavior
Introduction: Giant cell lesions of the bone comprise a group of jaw bone pathologies. Different pathogeneses such as reactive, vascular or neoplastic have been proposed for these lesions. In addition, differentiating between aggressive and nonaggressive central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) of the jaws based on histopathologic features is still impossible and due to different treatment protocols...
متن کاملCorrelation Between Immunohistochemical Profile of Giant Cell Granuloma with Pathogenesis and Biologic Behavior: A Review Article
Abstract: Background and Aim: Giant cell Granulomas (central and peripheral) are two fairly common lesions of the oral cavity with uncertain etiology and pathogenesis. As well, the reason for their different biologic behavior is not well understood yet. This study aimed to review the immunohistochemical profile of giant cell granuloma and its correlation with pathogenesis and biologic behavior....
