Β-lactamase in Acinetobacter Species: a Global Threat
نویسندگان
چکیده
Acinetobacter species are ubiquitous in nature. The members of genus Acinetobacter causes nosocomial infections. Acinetobacter spp. has emerged as globally challenging pathogen due to multiple antibiotic resistant. Major concern is that it shows resistance to all available β-lactam antibiotics classes such as carbapenems and third-generation cephalosporins. Acinetobacter spp. can survive on both natural and hospital environment, especially in intensive care unit and have been identified in military camps and predominantly isolated from burns and wounds unit. It is demonstrated that mobile genetic elements are responsible for the clonality spreads. Indeed, new antibiotics are much needed for the treatment since there are only limited options left for the clinicians. This review details about the nature, spread, clinical significance, detection method, current antibiotic regimen and highlights its public health threat.

Characterization, Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii Infecting Foodstuff
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is a highly virulent bacterium. It causes opportunistic and nosocomial infections and is a threat to healthcare settings. It has also developed multidrug resistance (MDR) capacity. The nosocomial bacteria and antibiotic resistance are primordial and a significant public health concern. These bacteria and their threat can be prevented by reducing infected food...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequences of Escherichia coli Isolates from Wounded Military Personnel
Members of the Escherichia coli bacterial family have been grouped as ESKAPE (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species) pathogens because of their extensive drug resistance phenotypes and increasing threat to human health. The genomes of six extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli...
متن کاملBiofilm Formation and β-lactamase Enzymes: A Synergism Activity in Acinetobacter baumannii Isolated from Wound Infection
Background and Objective: Biofilm formation plays a crucial role in wound infections and increases the bacteria resistance to treatment. The present study investigated the relationship between the biofilm formation, ESBL, AmpC, and KPC enzymes in Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from the wound specimens. Materials and Methods: Eighty- nine A. baumannii isolates were collected from wound specim...
متن کاملVIM-1 Metallo-β-lactamase in Acinetobacter baumannii
In 2004 and 2005, 5 metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-positive Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were found in 2 Greek hospitals. Isolates were unrelated and carried blaVIM-1 in a class 1 integron; bla(OXA-51-) and bla(OXA-58-like) carbapenemase genes were also detected. VIM-1 MBL in Acinetobacter spp. causes concern, given the increasing resistance of this species.
متن کاملPrevalence of metalo- β-lactamase-producing (MBL) Acinetobacter species in a tertiary care hospital
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Acinetobacter causes a wide variety of illness in debilitated and hospitalized patients. Carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter is an emerging problem and is a cause of concern as many nosocomial infections with Acinetobacter are resistant to most other antibiotics. The present study was aimed to study metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) production in Acinetobacter species. MA...
