Strong Coupling vs. 4-D Locality in Induced Gravity
نویسنده
چکیده
We re-examine the problem of strong coupling in a regularized version of DGP (or “brane-induced”) gravity. We find that the regularization of ref. hep-th/0304148 differs from DGP in that it does not exhibit strong coupling or ghosts up to cubic order in the interactions. We suggest that the nonlocal nature of the theory, when written in terms of the 4-D metric, is a plausible reason for this phenomenon. Finally, we briefly discuss the possible behavior of the model at higher-order in perturbation theory. e-mail:[email protected] e-mail: [email protected]

Strong Coupling Holography
We show that whenever a 4-dimensional theory with N particle species emerges as a consistent low energy description of a 3-brane embedded in an asymptotically-flat (4 + d)-dimensional space, the holographic scale of high-dimensional gravity sets the strong coupling scale of the 4D theory. This connection persists in the limit in which gravity can be consistently decoupled. We demonstrate this e...
متن کاملQuantum Gravitational Effects and Grand Unification
In grand unified theories with large numbers of fields, renormalization effects significantly modify the scale at which quantum gravity becomes strong. This in turn can modify the boundary conditions for coupling constant unification, if higher dimensional operators induced by gravity are taken into consideration. We show that the generic size of, and the uncertainty in, these effects from grav...
متن کاملNon-locality and Gravity-induced Cp Violation
We consider a space-time dependent relative phase between the rightand left-handed spinors and show that it results in a violation of locality in the presence of gravity once the demand of parity covariance is dropped. This violation of locality is such that it readily interprets itself as a gravity-induced CP violation, and at the same time confirms an earlier remark by Wigner that a represent...
متن کاملOn the Exact Operator Formalism of Two-Dimensional Liouville Quantum Gravity in Minkowski Spacetime
A detailed reexamination is made of the exact operator formalism of two-dimensional Liouville quantum gravity in Minkowski spacetime with the cosmological term fully taken into account. Making use of the canonical mapping from the interacting Liouville field into a free field, we focus on the problem of how the Liouville exponential operator should be properly defined. In particular, the condit...
متن کاملStrong coupling in brane-induced gravity in five dimensions
Brane-induced gravity in five dimensions (Dvali–Gabadadze–Porrati model) exhibits modification of gravity at ultra-large distances, r ≫ rc = M 2 P l/M 3 where M is the five-dimensional gravity scale. This makes the model potentially interesting for explaining the observed acceleration of the Universe. We argue, however, that it has an intrinsic intermediate energy scale (M9/M4 P l) 1/5. At high...
