Introduction to Complex Fluids

In this chapter we introduce the fundamental concepts in Newtonian and complex fluid mechanics, beginning with the basic underlying assumptions in continuum mechanical modeling. The equations of mass and momentum conservation are derived, and the Cauchy stress tensor makes its first of many appearances. The Navier–Stokes equations are derived, along with their inertialess limit, the Stokes equa...

Unsteady Flow and Heat Transfer of Ucm Fluid in a Porous Channel with Variable Thermal Conductivity and Ion Slip Effects

This article presents an unsteady incompressible Upper Convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid flow with temperature dependent thermal conductivity between parallel porous plates which are maintained at different temperatures varying periodically with time. Assume that there is a periodic suction and injection at the upper and lower plates respectively. The governing partial differential equations are re...

Symmetry Analysis of Boundary Layer Equations of an Upper Convected Maxwell Fluid with Magnetohydrodynamic Flow

Steady state boundary layer equations of an upper convected Maxwell fluid with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow are considered. The strength of the magnetic field is assumed to be variable with respect to the location. Using Lie group theory, group classification of the equations with respect to the variable magnetic field is performed. General boundary conditions including stretching sheet and i...

Dual Solutions for Nonlinear Flow Using Lie Group Analysis

`The aim of this analysis is to investigate the existence of the dual solutions for magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of an upper-convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid over a porous shrinking wall. We have employed the Lie group analysis for the simplification of the nonlinear differential system and computed the absolute invariants explicitly. An efficient numerical technique namely the shooting method h...
