Airfoil Shape Optimization for Transonic Flows of Bethe–Zel’dovich–Thompson Fluids

چکیده
High-performance airfoils for transonic flows of Bethe–Zel’dovich–Thompson fluids are constructed using a robust and efficient Euler flow solver coupled with a multi-objective genetic algorithm. Bethe–Zel’dovich– Thompson fluids are characterized by negative values of the fundamental derivative of gasdynamics for a range of temperatures and pressures in the vapor phase, which leads to nonclassical gasdynamic behaviors such as the disintegration of compression shocks. Using Bethe–Zel’dovich–Thompson gases as working fluids may result in low drag exerted on airfoils operating at high transonic speeds, due to a substantial increase in the airfoil critical Mach number. This advantage can be further improved by a proper design of the airfoil shape, also leading to the enlargement of the airfoil operation range within which Bethe–Zel’dovich–Thompson effects are significant. Such a result is of particular interest in viewof the exploitation ofBethe–Zel’dovich–Thompsonfluids for the development of high-efficiency turbomachinery.

The Effects of Shape Parameterization on the Efficiency of Evolutionary Design Optimization for Viscous Transonic Airfoils
The effect of airfoil shape parameterization on optimum design and its influence on the convergence of the evolutionary optimization process is presented. Three popular airfoil parametric methods including PARSEC, Sobieczky and B-Spline (Bezier curve) are studied and their efficiency and results are compared with those of a new method. The new method takes into consideration the characteristics...
متن کاملA Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).
This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...

2 A tutti coloro che credono in me. Io continuerò sempre a credere in loro. (ABSTRACT) This thesis presents an accurate study about the fluid-dynamics of dense gases and their potential application as working fluids in Organic Rankine Cycles (ORCs). The ORCs are similar to a steam Rankine Cycle where an organic fluid is used instead of steam, which ensures better efficiency for low-temperature ...
متن کاملMulti Objective Optimization of Transonic Airfoil Using Cst Methodology with General and Evolved Supercritical Class Function
CST method is a powerful parameterization method because of its simplicity, robustness, and its ability to be generalized into various possible shapes of aerodynamic bodies. The geometry from CST itself is mainly determined by the formula of class and shape function. Application of CST to transonic airfoil optimization is still rare and more studies are needed. This work studies the application...

A new method using the cubic B-spline curves with nominal uniform knot set to parameterize the geometry is proposed to deal with shape optimization problems. In the method, the control points of the B-spline curves are set to be the design variables in the optimization scheme. A knot insertion algorithm has been introduced in order to keep the geometry unchanged whilst increasing the number of ...
