A measure for mesh compression of time-variant geometry

چکیده
We present a novel measure for compression of time-variant geometry. Compression of timevariant geometry has become increasingly relevant as transmission of high quality geometry streams is severely limited by network bandwidth. Some work has been done on such compression schemes, but none of them give a measure for prioritizing the loss of information from the geometry stream while doing a lossy compression. In this paper we introduce a cost function which assigns a cost to the removal of particular geometric primitives during compression, based upon their importance in preserving the complete animation. We demonstrate that the use of this measure visibly enhances the performance of existing compression schemes.

Geometry and Connectivity Compression of Triangle Meshes
Triangle meshes are the basic primitives of computer graphics and many simulation algorithms. When representing complex shapes, detailed triangle meshes consume a large amount of storage in a raw data format. Increasing geometric detail in the computer aided design industry, the movie industry and in models produced by modern 3D scanners demand for efficient storage and transmission of gigantic...
متن کاملNumerical optimization of hydrofoil geometry for a Darrieus hydraulic turbine using dynamic mesh and central composite design
In this study, a Darrieus hydraulic turbine for power generation applications is chosen and the response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) is applied to obtain the optimized design for its hydrofoil geometry to increase the torque coefficient. For this aim, all turbine performance factors, except hydrofoil geometry, were considered to be constant and the turbine ...
متن کاملLossless Geometry Compression for Steady-State and Time-Varying Tetrahedral Meshes
In recent years, new challenges for scientific visualization have emerged as the size of data generated from simulations has grown exponentially. The emerging demand for efficiently storing, transmitting, and visualizing such data in networked environments has motivated research in graphics compression for 3D polygonal models and volumetric datasets. The most general class of volumetric data is...
متن کاملRecovering Local Geometry for Time-varying Mesh from Motion
3D geometric modeling of real-world characters from multiview video is one of the popular topics in computer vision. In order to capture detailed and accurate 3D geometric model (Time-varying mesh), however, most proposed systems use only some static components(e.g. intensity, texture, color) of the generalized frames, e.g. photometric stereo method, stereo matching method. On the other hand, t...
متن کاملLapped spectral decomposition for 3D triangle mesh compression
Spectral decomposition of mesh geometry has first been introduced by Taubin for geometry processing purposes. It has been extended to address transmission issues by Karni & Gotsman. Such decompositions give rise to pseudo-frequential information of the geometry defined over the mesh connectivity. For large meshes a piecewise decomposition has to be applied in order to restrict the complexity of...
