Elephantiasis of the Female Generative Organs

SittBOO Baestomy, aged 33 years, Hindoo, a native of tin'3 district nnd a prostitute by profession, came to the Charitable Dispensary on the 6th of June last, to get relief from a tumour which caused her pain and considerable inconvenience especially in walking. This growth sprang from the nymph?, and hung down in front of the urino-genital passage; it was pear shaped, about four inches long ; it commenced six months before she came under treatment; she had suffered from fevor more frequently than usual since the tumour began to grow ; it nr|1.s hard and tuberculated on tho surface ; when sho had fever it became tender and inflamed ; she acknowledges to have sufferec from syphilis when a young girl ; sho lias three large cicatrices, the remains of old buboos, in her groins ; the right labium i| also enlarged and hard. Soon after hor admission she suffered from fever and a rather profuse menstrual disoharge, which prevented my operating till the 26th June. On tho morning o that day, having placed her under the influence of chloroform, I tied a ligature round the apex of tho tumour, drew it "cl forward, and with a single sweop of the knife separated it; tAVC? small arteries were ligatured. She left the hospital within a week, quite well so far as that operation was concerned, but expect to see her back again with elephantiasis of tho labiumBe^uleau, 1th August 18/4.
