چکیده

This article addresses the problem of denoising piecewise constant functions by using both an jump-tolerant moving average and Haar wavelet shrinkage. The piecewise constant functions are contaminated with Poissonlike noise and are measurements of perceived itch by human subjects in an experiment to relate perceived itch to blood ow in response to histamine iontophoresis. We show that the translation-invariant wavelet transform with universal wavelet shrinkage provides a fast and automatic method for producing good estimates of the underlying perceived itch and that the method is superior to the jump-tolerant moving average and standard wavelet shrinkage. The article then looks in more detail at the noise structure of the signals and highlights some new wavelet techniques that might

Bayesian Wavelet Shrinkage

Bayesian wavelet shrinkage methods are defined through a prior distribution on the space of wavelet coefficients after a Discrete Wavelet Transformation has been applied to the data. Posterior summaries of the wavelet coefficients establish a Bayes shrinkage rule. After the Bayes shrinkage is performed, an Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transformation can be used to recover the signal that generated ...

Sonar target enhancement by shrinkage of incoherent wavelet coefficients.

Background reverberation can obscure useful features of the target echo response in broadband low-frequency sonar images, adversely affecting detection and classification performance. This paper describes a resolution and phase-preserving means of separating the target response from the background reverberation noise using a coherence-based wavelet shrinkage method proposed recently for de-nois...

Wavelet Shrinkage Estimation of Certain Poisson Intensity Signals Using Corrected Thresholds

Wavelet shrinkage estimation has been found to be a powerful tool for the non-parametric estimation of spatially variable phenomena. Most work in this area to date has concentrated primarily on the use of wavelet shrinkage techniques in contexts where the data are modeled as observations of a signal plus additive, Gaussian noise. In this paper, I introduce an approach to estimating intensity fu...

Shrinking wavelet coeecients was proposed from several optimality criteria. In this article a wavelet shrinkage by cohere...
