Quantification of myocardial viability in diffuse and contiguous infarction using 3D inversion recovery MRI: Validation against microscopy

چکیده
Background Sheifer et al indicated that undetected infarction account for at least 20% of all infarctions and carry a prognosis as poor as detected ones [1]. Large myocardial infarction has been measured using both 3D and 2D delayed enhancement MRI, which was compared with histochemical staining [2]. The purpose of this MRI study was to 1) measure diffuse and large infarction size using delayed contrast enhanced 3D inversion recovery (IR) gradient echo (GRE) in beating and non-beating swine hearts and 2) compare the 3D measurements against 2D-IR GRE, histochemical staining and microscopic histopathology.

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular-MR (CMR) is the gold standard for quantifying myocardial infarction using late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) technique. Both 2D- and 3D-LGE-sequences are used in clinical practise and in clinical and experimental studies for infarct quantification. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate if image acquisitions with 2D- and 3D-LGE show the same infarct size in ...

Background Late gadolinium enhancement MRI (LGE-MRI) has become the gold standard for assessing myocardial infarction size. In experimental infarct validation studies the left ventricle is often sliced into thin slices and subsequently stained with TTC as a gold standard for infarct quantification. There is no single imaging slice in a 3D-MR data stack that exactly represents the photographed T...

BACKGROUND In Contrast Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging fibrotic myocardium can be distinguished from healthy tissue using the difference in the longitudinal T1 relaxation after administration of Gadolinium, the so-called Late Gd Enhancement. The purpose of this work was to measure the myocardial absolute T1 post-Gd from a single breath-hold 3D Phase Sensitivity Inversion Recovery sequence (...

INTRODUCTION — Infarct size is an important measurement for assessing disease progression and treatment efficacy in myocardial infarction (MI), where ex vivo staining with tetrazolium salts such as triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) is regarded as the gold standard. Recently, delayedenhancement (DE)-MRI with gadolinium (Gd)-DTPA has been established as an accurate method for assessing in vivo ...
متن کاملDelayed contrast-enhanced cardiac MRI at an open 1.0T MR-system comparison of conventional segmented 3D gradient echo and phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequences: initial results
Background Delayed contrast enhanced (DE) cardiac MR imaging (cMRI) has become the gold standard for the in vivo detection and quantification of myocardial infarcts (MI). Up to now, cMRI had to be performed in a closed bore environment due to technical constraints of the existing open low-field MR scanners. The introduction of an open 1.0T MR-system with high gradient performance has paved the ...
