THE COMPLEX CORE OF ABELL 2199: THE X-RAY and RADIO INTERACTION

چکیده
The cluster Abell 2199 is one of the prototypical “cooling flow” clusters. Its central cD galaxy is host to a steep-spectrum radio source, of the type associated with cooling cores. In this paper we combine radio data with new ROSAT HRI data to show that conditions in its inner core, < ∼ 50 kpc, are complex and interesting. Energy and momentum flux from the radio jet have been significant in the dynamics of the gas in the core. In addition, the Faraday data detects a dynamically important magnetic field there. The core of the X-ray luminous gas is not a simple, spherically symmetric cooling inflow. In addition, we believe the X-ray gas has had strong effects on the radio source. It seems to have disrupted the jet flow, which has led to dynamical history very different from the usual radio galaxy. This particular source is much younger than the galaxy, which suggests the disruptive effects lead to an on-off duty cycle for such sources. Limits on the Diffuse Radio and Hard X - Ray Emission of Abell 2199
The Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS) and the NRAO/VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) were used to determine an upper limit to the diffuse radio flux from the nearby cluster Abell 2199. For the entire cluster, this limit is <3.25 Jy at 327 MHz from WENSS; for the inner 15 radius, the limit is <168 mJy at 1.4 GHz. These limits are used to constrain the cluster magnetic field by requiring that the radio ...
متن کاملLow-energy X-ray emission from the Abell 2199 cluster of galaxies
In a recent Letter, Berghöfer & Bowyer rediscussed the analysis of BeppoSAX LECS data of the cluster of galaxies Abell 2199 as presented by Kaastra et al., in particular the detection of a soft X-ray excess. Berghöfer & Bowyer stated that their analysis method is better suited and does not show evidence for a soft X-ray excess. Here we find it necessary to publish a rebuttal, because it can be ...
متن کاملIsothermal shocks in Abell 2199 and 2 A 0335 + 096 ?
We report on a partially circular X-ray surface brightness discontinuity found at about 55 kpc from the centre of Abell 2199 with Chandra X-ray observatory observations. Unlike cold fronts found in other clusters, the feature shows no significant temperature change across it but has an apparent density jump. We therefore identify it as a weak isothermal shock associated with the central AGN and...
متن کامل1 v 1 2 N ov 1 99 9 EUV EMISSION IN ABELL 1795 , ABELL 2199 , AND THE COMA CLUSTER
We report new EUV data on the cluster of galaxies Abell 1795. These data were taken well away from a detector defect which could have compromised earlier results on this cluster. Our new observations confirm the validity of the original data set. However, we find our results are strongly influenced by the variation of the telescope sensitivity over the field of view and upon the details of the ...
متن کاملAn X - Ray Temperature Map of the Merging Cluster Abell 2255
We present a spatially resolved map of intracluster gas temperatures in the rich cluster Abell 2255, using ROSAT PSPC data. The intracluster gas is strongly non-isothermal and the temperature distribution supports the conclusions of Burns et al. (1995) that Abell 2255 is currently undergoing a merger. The hottest regions are near the core, northwest of the center. A map of the ratio of softer t...
