چکیده

DESCRIPTION A 32-year-old scuba diver was admitted to the emergency department for distinct cutaneous lesions. Following an uneventful dive, his peers suspected of several lesions over his body pertaining to decompression sickness (DCS). After his initial assessment, he was referred to the underwater and hyperbaric medicine department for consultation. The patient was a senior diver and denied to experience any diving accident before. On that cold day, he completed his 45 min dive to 20 m with a dry diving suit. Except for a sensation of discomfort on descent, his diving profile was unremarkable. On examination, he had multiple linear lesions located over his shoulders, upper arms, abdomen and his back, appearing in various colours of bruising; dark yellow, yellow brown and dark purple (figures 1 and 2). Neurological sign and symptoms pertaining to DCS were absent. The patient was diagnosed as dry suit squeeze. Dry diving suits, compared with the wet ones, have the advantages of a superior thermal protection owing to an

Static or breakloose friction for lubricated contacts: the role of surface roughness and dewetting.

We present experimental data for the static or breakloose friction for lubricated elastomer contacts, as a function of the time of stationary contact. Due to fluid squeeze-out from the asperity contact regions, the breakloose friction force increases continuously with the time of stationary contact. We consider three different cases: (a) PDMS rubber balls against flat smooth glass surfaces, (b)...

The Effect of Standard Wave Conditions on Dry Suit Insulation When Measured on Humans

Testing of immersion suits is commonly conducted in calm or circulatory water. Several investigators have argued that this is an unrealistic test for a suit that is designed to protect a human from hypothermia in open ocean conditions. In support of this argument, Steinman et al. (1) and Romet et al.(2) reported a significant reduction of suit insulation in turbulent water when compared to stil...

In this paper the problem on “Magnetic fluid lubrication of porous-pivoted slider bearing with slip velocity by N Ahmad et.al.[7]” has been recapitulated using Jenkin’s model [4] with the additional effect of squeeze velocity of the above plate. It is found that while discussing the above problem, [7] has stated but ignored the term , where +, in their study (Refer equation(2.2)). This paper re...
