چکیده

Methods A randomly selected and representative sample of 234 Portuguese GPs completed the Work Package 4 questionnaire of the ODHIN Project. GPs’ attitudes were measured with the Shortened Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Perception Questionnaire (SAAPPQ). Principal component and hierarchical cluster analysis were conducted to define the optimal group number. Final GP classification was achieved with K-means partitioning. Groups were compared regarding age, years of practice, sex, and type of practice (urban, rural, mixed). Logistic regression analysis was conducted to derive the classification model. The model’s specificity, sensitivity, and overall accuracy were calculated.

Feasibility of detection and intervention for alcohol-related liver disease in the community: the Alcohol and Liver Disease Detection study (ALDDeS).

BACKGROUND In the past 15 years mortality rates from liver disease have doubled in the UK. Brief alcohol advice is cost effective, but clinically meaningful reductions in alcohol consumption only occur in around 1 in 10 individuals. AIM To provide evidence that detecting early liver disease in the community is feasible, practical, and that feedback of liver risk can increase the proportion of...

The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT): validation of a screening instrument for use in medical settings.

OBJECTIVE The concurrent, construct, and discriminant validity of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) were evaluated. AUDIT consists of a 10-item Core questionnaire and an 8-item Clinical procedure. AUDIT was designed to identify hazardous drinkers (whose drinking increases their risk of alcohol-related problems, though alcohol-associated harm has not yet occurred); harmful dr...

Validation of the Bayesian Alcoholism Test compared to single biomarkers in detecting harmful drinking.

AIMS Conventional tests for alcohol dependence often fail to detect hazardous and harmful alcohol use (HHAU) accurately. We previously validated the Bayesian Alcoholism Test (BAT) for the detection of HHAU among males. This uses 15 biochemical and clinical variables, including questionnaire data to calculate the probability of harmful (>80 g alcohol/day), hazardous (40-80 g/day) and 'moderate' ...

Effectiveness of Alcohol Brief Intervention in a General Hospital: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of an alcohol brief intervention (ABI) on alcohol consumption in hazardous or harmful drinkers compared with screening alone within a general hospital setting. METHOD Following screening, 124 hazardous or harmful drinkers (103 men, ages 18-80 years, score of 3-12 on the Fast Alcohol Screening Test [FAST]) admitted to medical...

Reversing the sequence: reducing alcohol consumption by overcoming alcohol attentional bias.

The aims of the research were to (a) compare the alcohol attentional bias (AAB) of social, hazardous, and harmful drinkers and (b) assess the effects of alcohol attention-control training on the AAB and alcohol consumption of hazardous and harmful drinkers. Participants were social drinkers (N=40), hazardous drinkers (N=89), and harmful drinkers (N=92). Paper-and-pencil measures were used to co...
